Department of Public Health and the Public Health Club of Independent University, Bangladesh observed World Health Day on April 13, 2026, with a series of campus events under the theme “Together for Health: Stand with Science.”

The program included a seminar titled “Acute Malnutrition of Children in Bangladesh: A Public Health Problem Often Ignored,” along with an inter-university poster and video exhibition. The seminar featured Tahmeed Ahmed executive director of icddr,b, as the keynote speaker and Dr. Md. Khairul Islam as special guest.

In his keynote speech, Ahmed highlighted that 8–11% of children under five in Bangladesh suffer from (1) ______, increasing their risk of mortality. He identified food insecurity, infections and poor feeding practices as major (2) ______ of the problem. He also emphasized the importance of science-based and locally relevant solutions such as “Sharnali,” a ready-to-use therapeutic food.
