𝐔𝐋𝐀𝐁 𝐂𝐒𝐄 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔
In line with the Earth Day 2026 celebrations at ULAB held from April 20–22, 2026, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) organized the Earth Hackathon 2026, themed “Smart Solutions for a Greener Planet,” on April 21, 2026.

The teams identified real-world problems using NASA Earthdata and developed functional prototypes as innovative solutions across five tracks: Climate & Environmental Change, Air Quality & Pollution, Natural Disaster Monitoring, Urban Sustainability, and Agriculture & Food Security. The teams subsequently presented their prototypes, which were evaluated by a panel of judges through a rigorous assessment process.

Based on the evaluation, the project titled “Sustho Shoshyo” emerged as the Champion, developed by Kausar Ahmed, Sumaia Afroz Sayka, and M. Al Shahriar Hameem. The 1st Runner-Up position was awarded to the project “Green Flag,” developed by Md. Shahriar Alam, Md. Abu Hurayra, and Sajib Chowdhury. The 2nd Runner-Up title went to the project “Green Map,” developed by Md. Yusuf, Takia Nawrin, and Maftun Ahommed.

Professor Shamsad Mortuza, the Vice Chancellor of ULAB, along with Mr. Ariful Hasan Opu, CEO of e-Soft and Adviser to the NASA Space Apps Challenge Bangladesh, handed over crests and certificates to the top three teams at the Earth Day 2026 Award Ceremony. All participants were also awarded certificates.

The winners were officially announced by Professor Muhammad Golam Kibria, Head of CSE Department, in the presence of faculty members, participants, and students.

𝐔𝐋𝐀𝐁 𝐂𝐒𝐄 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔
The ULAB CSE Department successfully organized the CSE Project Competition for Spring 2026 on April 16, 2026. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 38 teams, showcasing innovative ideas and technical excellence.
The team “AI Talent Match” emerged as the Champion, with members Redwan Ahamad Samir, Bahadur Zamn Shezan, and Samia Rahman. The 1st Runner-Up position was secured by team “PayGuard,” consisting of Md. Shahriar Alam, Md. Mehedi Hassan Mahin, Mahatab Hossain Faiz, and Md. Abu Hurayra. The 2nd Runner-Up was team “Nirbhoy,” with members Saiful Islam, Md. Fahad Al Noman, and M. M. Rafsanjani Showrav.
All top three teams were awarded prizes and certificates, while members of the top 13 teams received certificates in recognition of their efforts.
Professor Muhammad Golam Kibria, Head of the CSE Department, extended his sincere thanks to all winners, participants, and faculty members for their valuable support and active participation.

As part of the Earth Day 2026 celebration at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), the ULAB CSE Department organized a seminar on April 21, 2026.

The seminar, titled “Technology-Driven Solutions for Sustainable Nutrition: Innovations for a Healthier Planet,” highlighted the growing importance of technology in ensuring sustainable nutrition and a healthier global ecosystem. The session was conducted by Md. Shahid Uddin Akbar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID).

In his talk, he emphasized the role of ICT and innovative digital solutions in addressing food security and nutritional challenges. The seminar witnessed active participation from both students and faculty members, who engaged in an interactive discussion and shared their perspectives on technology-driven sustainability.

The initiative reflects the CSE Department’s ongoing efforts to promote awareness, innovation, and responsible technological practices in line with global sustainability goals.

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 – 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

The CSE Department organized the Competitive Programming Contest – Spring 2026, in association with UCPC, on April 09, 2026. Students of the department participated enthusiastically in the contest.

Among 10 problems, the champion team Inconsistent++ solved 5 problems; team members were Yeasin Uddin Sourov (233014174) and Zeesad E Arham (233014127). The 1st runner-up, Noob_Coderz, solved 4 problems, with members Md. Mehedi Hasan (243014040), Md. Safwan Hossain (243014082), and Md. Sams Abiden Rajbi (243014044). The 2nd runner-up, One Raid, solved 3 problems, with members Sadman Sakib (251014039), Azizul Hakim (251014043), and Nafees Munsarim (251014007). One team solved 2 problems, while two teams solved 1 problem each.

Professor Muhammad Golam Kibria, Head of the CSE Department, expressed his gratitude to the participants, organizers - including Senior Lecturer Mr. Raihan Kibria, Senior Lecturer Mr. Md. Anowarul Abedin, and Lecturer Mr. Dewan Ahmed Muhtasim; UCPC executive members; and IT officers. Mr. Abedin declared the results of the contest. Leter, Prof. Kibria and other faculty members presented crests and certificates to the winners.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering successfully organized a seminar titled “Student Pathways to Building Globally Competitive Startups” on 08 April 2026.

The session featured Md. Al-Amin Sarker, CEO of Barikoi Maps and Co-founder of AmarBike, as the resource person. He shared valuable insights on entrepreneurial journeys, startup challenges, and global competitiveness, inspiring students to think beyond conventional career paths and pursue innovation-driven entrepreneurship. Students enthusiastically joined the session and actively participated in the discussion.

At the end of the program, Professor Muhammad Golam Kibria, Head of the CSE Department, emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship, innovation, and global competitiveness. He thanked all participants and Mr. Anowarul Abedin, Senior Lecturer, for his support and presented a token of appreciation to the resource person.
