Department of statistics

Jagannath University, one of the pioneer institutions of the Indian Sub-continent, was established as Jagannath College
in the year 1884. Subsequently, it was nationalized in 1968. Again, the government upgraded it into a post graduate/
university college in 1975 and finally gave recognition as a full-fledged public university with passing the Act (No. 28),
2005 in the national parliament. The department of statistics began its function in the year 1964, chaired by Professor Khodadad Khan. Others were
Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Kuddus, Prof. Abdus Samad Patoary, Prof. Md. Nurul Islam and so on.Earlier, it started activities in
the Higher Secondary and Bachelor of Degree Level. In the year 1973, it introduced B.Sc (Honors) Course which was ultimately
followed by the introduction of Masters Course. At present, the department operates courses for Four Years B.Sc Honors and One Year M.Sc Degree. Honors Course is comprised
of 8 (eight) semesters each of which is 6 (six) months duration. The subject (major and related) offered for graduate level
are compulsory for the students. The marks for each unit (3 credit) are distributed like 60% for semester final, 20% for mid
term/quiz, 20% for class performance and attendance. Besides, it conducts minor courses of statistics for various departments. Under the Faculties of Science and Business Studies. There are about 1000 students (including minor) in this department. As an integral part of the curriculum, research work is carried out in the Masters level. However, in order to maintain good
advancement of knowledge, several activities like tutorials, in-course exams. Excursions, laboratory sessions are being arranged

আসসালামুআলাইকুম। আশাকরি পরিবারের সবাইকে নিয়ে ভাল আছেন, নিরাপদে আছেন, সুস্থ অাছেন। আপনারা হয়তো অনেকেই জানেন আমি প্রায় আড়াই বছর যাবৎ ডাক্তারের ভাষায় স্পোন্ডেলাইটিস আর্থাইটিস এক্সাইল (SPA Axial) রোগে ভুগতেছি। প্রথমদিকে প্রচন্ড সমস্যা ছিল ঠিকমত চলাফেরাতো দূরে থাক মোবাইলটাও হাত দিয়ে ধরতে পারতাম না, জামা কাপড় নিজে পরতে এবং খুলতে পারতাম না কারও সাহায্য ছাড়া।

দুই বছর যাবৎ বাংলাদেশ থেকে চিকিৎসা নেওয়ার পর আমি অনেকটা ভাল আছি, এখনও ব্যাথা মুক্ত নই তবে আগের চেয়ে অনেক ভাল আছি। প্রথম বছর তিন মাস পর পর দেশে গিয়ে চিকিৎসা নিয়েছি, দ্বিতীয় বছর থেকে চার মাস পর পর দেখাচ্ছি এই বার ছয় মাস পর ( জুলাই ২০২০) ডাক্তার দেখানোর প্ল্যান ছিল। কিন্তু COVID-19 এর কারণে এখনও চীন থেকে বাংলাদেশে যাওয়া-আসা করা যাচ্ছে না।

সর্বশেষ ডাক্তার দেখিয়েছি জানুয়ারি ২০২০ এ কাজেই আমি ছয় মাসের ঔষধ সাথে নিয়ে এসেছিলাম। এতদিন অপেক্ষা করছিলাম যদি স্বাভাবিক হয় আমি দেশে গিয়ে ডাক্তার দেখিয়ে প্রয়োজনীয় সব ঔষধ নিয়ে আসবো। কিন্তু এখন ঔষধও শেষ পর্যায়ে আমি ও যেতে পারছি না।

আমার আসলে ব্যাথা নিরাময়ের ঔষধ খেতে খেতে লিভারেও ইনফেকশন হয়েছে কাজেই আমি সব সময় দুইজন ডাক্তার ( রিউম্যাটলোজি এবং লিভার বিশেষজ্ঞ) এবং একজন ফিজিশিয়ানের পরামর্শ নিয়ে জীবন-যাপন করি। ইতমধ্যে আমি মেইল করে ডাক্তারের সাথে যোগাযোগ করেছি এবং বর্তমান শারিরিক অবস্থার টেস্ট রিপোর্ট ও ডাক্তারকে দেখিয়েছি, ডাক্তার সে অনুযায়ি ব্যবস্থাপত্র দিয়েছেন এবং আমাকে দেশে যেতেও নিষেধ করেছেন এবং বলেছেন আমি এখন চেম্বারে বসি না কাজেই আপনি আসতে পারলেও আমার সাক্ষাৎ হয়তো পাবেন না। কাজেই ঠিকমত ঔষধ খাবেন কন্টোলে থাকবে ইনশাল্লাহ।

আমার হয়তো পরিমানে দেড় থেকে দুই কেজি ঔষধ বাংলাদেশ থেকে আনতে হবে এর মধ্যে কোন লিকুইড ঔষধ নেই। কেউ যদি কোনভাবে বাংলাদেশ থেকে পাঠাতে সাহায্য করতে পারেন খুবই উপকৃত হবো। কেউ চীনে আসতেছে জুলাই মাসে এরকম হইলে সবচেয়ে সহজ না হইলে পোস্ট অফিস বা অন্য যেকোন সার্ভিসে পাঠাতে সাহায্য করলে কৃতজ্ঞ থাকবো। আমি কারও মাধ্যমে ঔষধ কিনে প্যাকেট করে রাখবো। আপনারা শুধু পাঠানোর মাধ্যমের ব্যাপারে সাহায্য করলেই হবে। সবাইকে অনেক অনেক ধন্যবাদ। দোয়া করি আপনারা সবাই সুস্থ থাকুন। সুস্থ থাকা মহান আল্লাহ্'র অনেক বড় নিয়ামত।

আসসালামু আলাইকুম।
আমাদের Alumni Association এর পক্ষ থেকে আগামী ১৪ই ফেব্রুয়ারী রোজ শুক্রবার একটি বনভোজনের আয়োজন হওয়ার কথা আছে সেটা আপনারা সবাই জানেন। অনেকেই আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করেছিলেন লঞ্চভ্রমণের জন্য এবং চঁাদপুরের দিকে যাওয়ার প্ল্যান হয়েছিলো। আমরা সেই বিষয়ে অনেক খোঁজ খবর নিয়েছি। আমরা লঞ্চ যেটা দেখেছি সেটার নাম Morning Sun, মাঝারি সাইজের এবং ভাড়া হচ্ছে ১১০,০০০ টাকা। আরও খরচ আছে। আমরা যদি লঞ্চভ্রমণ করতে চাই সেক্ষেত্রে কমপক্ষে ৩০০ জন প্রয়োজন। ৩০০ জনের নিচে হলে এটা সম্ভব না কোন মতেই। আমরা যেহেতু এই ধরনের অনুষ্ঠান এই প্রথমবার করতে যাচ্ছি তাই সবার রেসপন্স কেমন আসবে বুঝতেছি না। তাই লঞ্চভ্রমণটা একটু রিস্কি হবে কিন্তু আপনারা যদি যে যার ব্যাচ থেকে দায়িত্ব নিয়ে আমাদেরকে একটু কনফর্ম হয়ে জানান সেক্ষেত্রে লঞ্চভ্রমণ সম্ভব। যদি আমরা লঞ্চভ্রমণ করি তাহলে আমাদের আগামী দুইদিনের মধ্যে লঞ্চের বুকিং কনফর্ম করতে হবে কারণ একে তো শুক্রবার এবং তার উপর বনভোজনের সিজন। শুধুমাত্র আপনাদের রেসপন্স এর উপর এইটা নির্ভর করছে। সুতরাং সবার প্রতি অনুরোধ থাকবে আপনারা আগামীকালের মধ্যেই কনফর্ম করবেন কয়জন যেতে চাইছেন।
বনভোজনের খাবার থেকে শুরু করে সব দায়িত্ব আমাদেরকে নিতে হবে। সুতরাং অন্তত ২০ জন সদস্যের সাহায্য প্রয়োজন। তা না হলে এটা করা সম্ভব নয়। আপনারা যারা এই দায়িত্ব নিতে চান তারাও রেসপন্স করবেন।
আপনারা আপনাদের পরিবারের সদস্যদের নিয়ে যেতে পারবেন। এবং যারা এখনো রেজিটার্ড সদস্য হতে পারেননি তারাও যেতে পারবেন।

চঁাদার পরিমানঃ ১২০০ টাকা প্রতিজন
৪ বছর বয়সের নিচে বাচ্চা ফ্রী।
৪ বছরের উপর এবং ১২ বছরের নিচে বাচ্চার চঁাদার পরিমানঃ ৮০০ টাকা।

বিঃদ্রঃ আমাদের পক্ষে সবাইকে ফোন করে জানানো সম্ভব হচ্ছে না এই মুহুর্তে। তাই অন্তত আপনারা যার যার ব্যাচের দায়িত্ব নিয়ে আমাদেরকে জানাবেন কাইন্ডলি। পারলে আপনাদের ব্যাচের নিজস্ব গ্রুপে মেসেজটি দিয়ে দেন। আপনাদের সবার সহযোগিতা পেলেই সম্ভব এই পরিকল্পনা।

আমাদের শ্রদ্ধেয় স্যার প্রফেসর #ড. মোঃ ছিদ্দিকুর রহমানের এর বইটা অসম্ভব ভালো। বিশেষ করে যারা পরিসংখ্যানের মৌলিক বিষয়গুলো নিয়ে চিন্তায় আছেন বা বিষয়গুলো আরো একটু ভালো মত জানতে চান তারা বইটি সংগ্রহে রাখতে পারেন।
আমাদের যারা পরিসংখ্যানের গ্রাজুয়েট আছেন তারা বিভিন্ন চাকরির ভাইভার সময় এই বিষয় গুলো নিয়ে বেশ চিন্তা করেন। তাদের বলব বইটা অবশ্যই সংগ্রহে রাখবেন। বিশেষ করে স্যার অনেক বেশি বাস্তব উদাহরণ দিয়ে বিষয় গুলো বুঝিয়েছেন।
বইটি আপনারা কাজী প্রকাশনীতে পাবেন।
স্যারের জন্য অনেক বেশি শুভ কামনা।
