It has contributed a lot in the development of the social and legal structure of the country. It is the first institution in Bangladesh to get the permission of University of London to conduct Diploma in Law which is currently known as The Certificate of Higher Education in Common Law (Cert.HE ).

The Code of Ur-Nammu is the oldest known surviving law code, written in Sumerian on clay tablets between 2100 and 2050 BCE. Originating in Mesopotamia, this code is centuries older than the famous Code of Hammurabi and emphasizes monetary compensation for bodily injury rather than "eye for an eye" justice.
