Drawing on colonial histories and present-day digital practices, Professor Sultana demonstrated how rigid constructions of religion and identity continue to be reproduced, even as academic discourse increasingly recognises the fluidity of language and culture.

She ultimately argued that decolonising our ways of thinking, speaking, and interacting is essential to challenging and dismantling discriminatory structures embedded in digital communication.

She delivered an insightful keynote address titled โ€œLimitlessness in Limit: The English Language Textbook in Bangladesh.โ€

In her keynote, Professor Sultana examined how English language textbooks shape studentsโ€™ identities, beliefs, and understandings of culture and power. Drawing on the English for Today (2022) textbook, she critically unpacked lingering postcolonial ideologies, unequal representations of Bangladesh and the West, and the limited opportunities for critical engagement in current textbook practices.

At the same time, she highlighted the transformative potential of reflective and empowered teachers, emphasizing that through critical awareness, ownership, and pedagogical agency, English textbooks can become powerful tools for fostering inclusivity, decolonising learning spaces, and nurturing studentsโ€™ critical thinking. Her keynote strongly reinforced the need to rethink English language education through the lens of equity, voice, and social justice in Bangladesh.

The 2026 National Conference organized by BELTA in collaboration with the English Discipline, Khulna University, successfully concluded with inspiring discussions, meaningful exchanges, and a collective commitment to advancing English language teaching in Bangladesh.

BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL), BRAC University recently hosted a policy dialogue on how teachers can better support girls in learning English.

Education leaders, teachers, trainers, university faculty members, NGO professionals, and English language experts from across Bangladesh joined the event. They shared ideas on improving teacher training, creating more supportive English classrooms for girls, and taking these practices forward nationwide.

The dialogue highlighted the importance of fair and inclusive English education so that disadvantaged girls can learn with confidence, grow, and succeed.

The national-level competition brought together 12,208 students from 536 schools across Bangladesh, aiming to foster self-motivated learners and promote quality education through language learning. After competitive rounds at the school, upazila, and district levels, 15 national winners were announced, with the top three winners set to receive educational scholarships in 2026.
