Established as Ummah Medical College in 1994-95 in Mirpur, Dhaka, it
shifted its premises to this site in 1998 under a new name - Shaheed
Monsur Ali Medical College and Hospital. It got its another name in
2002 as Moulana Bhasani Medical College under Moulana Bhasani Trust. At the starting of October 2007,the college shifted to its own
building,which was inagurated by ex-chairman of Moulana Bhasan
i Trust. Really that day was remakable day of joy and happiness for all
the students,teachers & well wishers of the renowned institution. In the year 2009 in february Dr.Jamala Uddin Chowdhury has been elected as chairman of MBT.And in recent past,in april 03, 2010, in the presence of Chairman, governing body of Moulana Bhasani Trust, Respected teachers and students,all the mediical stuff..again this institution renamed as Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College. The academic building of the college is built on its own land having spacious classrooms, lecture galleries, practical classrooms, departmental museums, library, reading rooms etc. It also accommodates a cafeteria and separate common rooms for male and female students having facilities for indoor games. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. Students have facilities for outdoor games also. The college is approved by the government of Bangladesh. It is affiliated with Dhaka University. It enjoys the recognition of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council [BMDC] as well as World Health Organization [WHO]. The College has already attained adorable standard to clinch the recognition of postgraduate training in various subjects in the college hospital by the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons [BCPS]. Course and curriculum:
Course offered is MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) of 5 year duration. The curriculum approved by the Dhaka University and BMDC are strictly followed in the College. MBBS Course:
Pre-clinical subjects: Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. Pre-clinical subjects: Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, Pathology and Microbiology. Clinical Subjects: Obstetrics and Gynaecology Medicine, Surgery and their allied subjects. Basic medical subjects-Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and clinical subjects-Medicine including psychiatry and dermatology, Surgery including ophthalmology and otolaryngology and Gynaecology and Obstetrics are taught during 5-year MBBS course. The College has fulfilled all the criteria set by the affiliating and approving authority regarding the quality and quantity of teachers like professors, associate professors and assistant professors. The administration and the teachers are much caring and pay due attention to all the needs of the students so that the students find the atmosphere favorable and homely. The board of trustees and the governing body keep constant vigilance on the development of the college as evidenced by its uplift. Teaching Methodology:
The students will be taught by lectures, clinical demonstrations, tutorials and practical. Ward demonstration, Seminars, Symposiums, workshops, field visit, and residential field side training (RFST), demonstration and Autopsy. Student’s result will depend on their performance on each item. Regular Assessment of the student is done as per University, BMDC & Govt. Teaching Media:
Overhead projector, Multimedia projector and other Audio visual equipment. Seminar and symposiums are organized on regular basis to ensure the acquaintances of students with the latest development in medical science.
