Jahangirnagar University was established in 1970 to enhance the basic the applied science research in Bangladesh (then East Pakistan). This is basically a research based university, most of the concern is implied on higher scientific education and research. Department of Pharmacy was established in 1987, as the second pharmacy school in Bangladesh. The department is well renowned for its research
and development in medical and pharmaceutical sciences. Two major research labs of this department are:
1. Focused Research on Ayurvedic Medicine and Education (FRAME)- deals with Medicine, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics.
2. Laboratory of Natural Products Research (LNPR)- deals with Pharmaceutics, Cosmetology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, and Clinical Chemistry. Along with the pure and applied pharmaceutical sciences, the department provides the Marketing based curriculum as required by present Pharma Market in both Bangladesh and around the world. The contribution of this department has already established itself firmly in the Pharma Sector of Bangladesh. Here it is essential to mention that now Bangladeshi Pharmaceutical Companies export highest number of medicine in the world, covering 117 countries in total.
