Military Institute of Science and Technology Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) started its journey since 19 April 1998. It is the pioneer Engineering Institute of Bangladesh Armed Forces.

It is the pioneer Technical Institute of Bangladesh Armed Forces. It was the visionary leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina to establish this Institute. MIST is located on the northwest part of Dhaka City at Mirpur Cantonment. Mirpur Cantonment is well known to be the ‘Education Village’ of Bangladesh Armed Forces and a hub of knowledge for mi

litary / civil students and professionals. First Academic Program was launched on 31 January 1999 with the maiden batch of Civil Engineering (CE). Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) Program was started from academic session 2000-2001 followed by Electrical, Electronic & Communication Engineering (EECE) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) Programs from 2002-2003. Aeronautical Engineering (AE) and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME) program were started from 2008-2009 and 2012-2013 respectively. Besides, four new departments started their academic session from 2014-2015 i.e. Nuclear Science & Engineering (NSE), Biomedical Engineering (BME), Architecture (Arch) and Environmental, Water Resources & Coastal Engineering (EWCE). Foreign students from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, Palestine, Afghanistan, South Sudan and Gambia are also studying in different Engineering Programs. MIST envisages creating facilities for students both from home and abroad and dedicated to pursue standard curriculum. As an Institution without gender biasness, MIST is steadily upholding its motto “Technology for Advancement” and remains committed to contributing to the wider spectrum of national educational arena, play a significant role in the development of human resources and gradually pursuing its goal to grow into a ‘Centre of Excellence’. MIST has well equipped class rooms with multimedia, web camera, internet facilities and laboratories with modern equipment. The medium of instruction for all engineering programs is English. All academic programs are affiliated with the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and have close cooperation with Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Dhaka University (DU). Intake of students in CE, CSE, EECE, ME, AE, and NAME department at undergraduate level is 65 and varies in other departments within 30-40. Academic Session normally starts in the last week of January. Admission process starts in September/October and Admission Test is held in November every year. Admission formalities are completed by December/January. MIST has other miscellaneous facilities like Medical Centre, Fitness Centre, Cyber Café, Broadband Internet facilities, Library and Students’ Accommodation (Male & Female). Out of ten programs, so far four departments namely CE, EECE, ME and CSE have achieved accreditation from BAETE (IEB) which is certainly considered to be a pronounced achievement for its academic excellence in national and international arena.

MIST Mongol Barota extends its sincere gratitude to its Chief Patron, Major General Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, Commandant of MIST, on the occasion of his farewell.

Under his esteemed leadership and continuous guidance, the team had the privilege of participating in the University Rover Challenge (URC) 2025 in Utah, USA, after a decade. His unwavering support and encouragement played a pivotal role in making this achievement possible. His presence alongside the team during the competition remains a matter of immense pride and inspiration for all members of Mongol Barota.

As a token of gratitude and respect, the team presented him with a miniature rover model, developed in the Mongol Barota laboratory, as a symbol of appreciation for his encouragement, trust, and invaluable contributions to the team’s journey.

As the team continues its preparations for URC 2026, it moves forward carrying the vision, motivation, and direction he instilled over the years. The members of MIST Mongol Barota extend their heartfelt thanks for his lasting contribution and convey their sincere wishes for his continued success, good health, and the very best in his future endeavors.

A proud milestone for MIST MAVIROV as the student-led robotics team, working under the supervision of the EECE Department, successfully inaugurated its 3rd advanced underwater drone (ROV).

The ceremony was graced by Major General Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, Respected Commandant of MIST, who witnessed the innovative features and technical advancements of the team’s newest ROV. As a mark of gratitude for his visionary leadership and continuous encouragement of student innovation, the team presented him with a token of appreciation.

The MIST Einthoven Club of the Department of Biomedical Engineering successfully organized CELESTRA’26, the National Biomedical Engineering Fest, at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) today. The event welcomed over 200 participants from universities across the country, bringing together aspiring innovators, researchers, and students for a day filled with learning, creativity, and collaboration.

The festival featured four dynamic segments, where participants presented innovative research, creative biomedical projects, and forward-thinking ideas. Each segment was marked by enthusiastic participation, engaging discussions, and insightful presentations, highlighting the remarkable potential of young minds in advancing the fields of healthcare and biomedical engineering.

The programme concluded with a closing ceremony and prize-giving session, where outstanding participants were recognized for their achievements and contributions. Major General Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, Commandant of MIST, attended the programme as the Chief Guest and distributed prizes among the winners.

CELESTRA’26 not only celebrated innovation and academic excellence but also marked the beginning of many more initiatives aimed at fostering research, creativity, and collaboration in the field of biomedical engineering.

The 45th Meeting of the Committee for Advanced Studies and Research (CASR) of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) was held on 05 March 2026 under the chairmanship of Major General Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, Commandant, MIST.

With the presence of distinguished professors from BUET, representatives from BUP, and senior faculty members of MIST, the meeting discussed several important postgraduate academic matters. During the session, the committee approved 13 Supervisor/Co-supervisor appointments, 2 Doctoral Committee formations, 12 Thesis Proposal Evaluations, 8 Boards of Examination formations, and 18 time extensions for postgraduate students, along with other program-related decisions.

Through his active guidance and leadership, the respected Commandant ensured productive deliberations and provided strategic direction to further strengthen postgraduate education and research at MIST. At the end of the meeting, he kindly accorded his consent to the decisions taken and thanked all members for their valuable participation.

MIST recognized Professor Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman of Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering for securing two patents — a Water-Repellent Jute Product promoting sustainable materials and a Natural Active Pain Reducer contributing to holistic healthcare through indigenous research.
MIST also acknowledged the contribution of Major Nazmul Karim Mazumder, AEC (Ex-Faculty, Department of Biomedical Engineering) for developing a Cost-effective Desalination and Arsenic Removal Filter, addressing critical challenges of safe drinking water.
In addition, MIST honored Assistant Professor Md. Tobibul Islam (Department of Biomedical Engineering) for his patented AAC-based rehabilitation system for vocally impaired individuals, reinforcing the institute’s dedication to inclusive innovation.
MIST proudly recognized the outstanding contributions of Lecturer Shah Md. Ahasan Siddique of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Lecturer Saif Reza and Lecturer Md Nafiz Redwan, from Department of Aeronautical Engineering, for their remarkable performance in indigenous research and development initiatives. The Faculty of Science and Humanities, MIST, successfully organized a departmental inauguration ceremony alongside the formal announcement of two new undergraduate programs—BSc in Mathematics and Data Science and BSc in Chemistry and Nanoscience—scheduled to commence in 2026. The ceremony began with the formal unveiling of the inaugural plaque by Maj Gen Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, Commandant, MIST, followed by a special prayer seeking divine blessings for continued progress and prosperity.

In his address, the Commandant emphasized discipline, professionalism, and institutional excellence. The Dean of the Faculty of Science and Humanities, Col Shirajul Islam Ukil, MPhil, PhD, highlighted the journey since 19 April 1998 and expressed sincere gratitude to the Commandant for his visionary leadership and unwavering support.

The newly formed Faculty of Architecture and Planning at MIST was formally inaugurated by the Respected Commandant, Major General Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc. The ceremony was attended by the Deans, Heads of Departments, Wing Heads, and faculty members, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey.

From the beginning of his tenure at MIST, the Commandant expressed deep admiration for the creativity, enthusiasm, and innovative spirit demonstrated by the students and faculty of the Department of Architecture. Recognizing its immense potential, he extended continuous support to strengthen its academic and infrastructural foundation.

Among his notable initiatives were the arrangement of high-end computers for the laboratory to enhance advanced design and visualization work, and the completion of long-pending maintenance of the Model Making Laboratory to promote hands-on learning and creativity.

With his visionary leadership, the Department of Architecture, together with the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP), has now evolved into the Faculty of Architecture and Planning. This transformation is expected to significantly contribute to academic excellence and institutional growth.

In recognition of the dedication and hard work of students and faculty members, along with the Commandant’s continuous support, the Architecture Department achieved accreditation from the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), further strengthening its academic standing.

The Commandant expressed his confidence that the newly inaugurated faculty will continue to progress, contribute meaningfully to nation-building, and expand its presence on the global stage. The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP) at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) was formally inaugurated on 3 March 2026, by Major General Md Nasim Parvez, BSP, ndc, afwc, psc, Commandant, MIST, in the presence of all Deans, Heads of the Departments, Wing Heads, and faculty members.

During the programme, the Dean, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, shared the historical background and vision of the department. He stated that Outcome-Based Education (OBE) will be implemented from the outset to ensure quality education aligned with international standards. The Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning also presented a comprehensive overview of the academic and infrastructural planning of the department.

In his address, the Commandant emphasized the growing demand for professional urban planners in response to rapid urbanization. He expressed his optimism that the department will produce competent, responsible, and ethical graduates who will contribute significantly to national development.

During the programme, students and the MIST Captain shared their heartfelt reflections and expressed sincere appreciation for his exemplary leadership, guidance, and contributions to the institution. The Respected Commandant subsequently delivered his farewell address, conveying his gratitude and best wishes to the MIST family.

As a token of profound respect and appreciation, the students presented him with floral tributes. The programme concluded with a commemorative photo session at the MIST Lakeside Plaza.

"আমার ভাইয়ের রক্তে রাঙানো একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি, আমি কি ভুলিতে পারি"

মহান একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি ও আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস উপলক্ষে ভাষা শহীদদের স্মরণে আজ যথাযোগ্য মর্যাদায় দিনটি পালন করেছে এমআইএসটি পরিবার।

দিনের শুরুতেই এমআইএসটিতে কর্মরত সামরিক ও অসামরিক কর্মকর্তা, স্টাফ এবং শিক্ষার্থীদের সমন্বয়ে একটি প্রতিনিধি দল কেন্দ্রীয় শহীদ মিনারে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণের মাধ্যমে ভাষা শহীদদের প্রতি বিনম্র শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করেন।

একই সাথে এমআইএসটির অভ্যন্তরে জাতীয় পতাকা অর্ধনমিতভাবে উত্তোলন করা হয়।

পরবর্তীতে বাদ যোহর এমআইএসটি মসজিদে ভাষা শহীদদের আত্মার মাগফিরাত এবং দেশের সমৃদ্ধি কামনায় আয়োজিত বিশেষ মোনাজাতে এমআইএসটিতে কর্মরত সকল সদস্য অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

ভাষার টানে প্রাণ বিসর্জন দেওয়া সকল শহীদের প্রতি রইলো আমাদের গভীর শ্রদ্ধা ও ভালোবাসা।
