Islamic University of Technology (IUT) proudly announces that three of its teams have claimed all three titles (Champion, 1st and 2nd Runner-ups) at the Transparency International Bangladesh Renewable Energy Idea Contest 2024. The Grand Final, held at CCDB, Savar, from 17-19 October 2024, followed three days of intense competition, where IUT teams triumphed over contenders from BUET, RUET, BRAC University, CU, and Bangladesh Maritime University.

The contest consisted of three rounds, and five IUT teams secured spots in the top 10 finalists. In the initial round, around 200 participants formed 89 teams and submitted draft proposals for renewable energy solutions. The second round involved online presentations from selected 30 teams. The Grand Finale included three days of on-premise grooming sessions, training, prototype displays, and final presentations.

‘Team Sustainability Sparks’, comprising Salman Hossain (EEE '19) and All Mumtahina Arika (EEE '19), with their mentor, Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammad Masum Billah (EEE, IUT), emerged as the Champions.

‘Team Green Cooler’ secured the 1st Runner-up position, represented by Sawda Muntaha (MPE '20) and Ishraq Tayeem Reja (EEE '20), with Junior Lecturer Ahmed Jawad Rashid (EEE, IUT) as their mentor.

‘Team Energy Ferry’, with Sayeed Hossain Sayor (EEE '20) and Professor Dr. Khondokar Habibul Kabir as his mentor, achieved the 2nd Runner-up position.

Additionally, the ‘Team IUT Green Energy Taskforce’ and ‘Team Wavengers’ concluded their journey as finalists.

In the public speaking competition held during the event, Ishraq Tayeem Reja of Team Green Cooler was named the 1st Runner-up.

We congratulate all the teams on their remarkable achievements and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.

Islamic University of Technology (IUT), a subsidiary organ of the 57-nation Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), extends its sincere felicitations to the Government and the people of Bangladesh, while also expressing profound respect for the memories of the martyrs on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of Bangladesh's Independence. The university pays homage to the Liberation War martyrs and recalls with profound awe and reverence the contribution of those who made the supreme sacrifice to realize the hopes and aspirations of the people by establishing an independent and sovereign country – Bangladesh.

IUT wishes the people of Bangladesh all success in their solemn journey towards a better and more prosperous future, aiming for the country to achieve its rightful place among the comity of nations and materialize the dreams of its Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The university remembers the leadership of the Father of The Nation, whose remarkable call on 7th March stirred the people, and also acknowledges his able lieutenants under whose direction the nascent nation was guided through the nine-month-long war.

On the eve of the 26th of March, as the whole nation prepares to celebrate its Independence Day, IUT takes the opportunity to extend its heartfelt greetings and deep gratitude to Bangladesh for hosting this esteemed seat of learning and for providing it with moral, material, and intellectual support over the years.

🌐 Exciting Visit from Indonesian Delegation to IUT 🌐

IUT is honored to have been visited by H.E. Mr. Joneri Alimin, Deputy Permanent Representative, and Mr. Iid Misbahuddin Nafis, Third Secretary, both from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, KSA, and Ms. Siti Ayu Prameswari, Representative from Socio-Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Dhaka, Bangladesh on 20 March 2024.

Discussions were held with our Honorable Vice Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Heads of Departments, Offices, Centers, and Institutes of the University, exploring avenues for student nominations and collaboration, as well as the exchange of faculty members.

During their visit, the esteemed guests toured the campus and were delighted to witness the beauty of the surroundings, including our library and laboratory facilities.

Gratitude is extended for their valuable time and contributions, and IUT looks forward to fostering stronger ties with the Government of Indonesia.

*H.E. Ambassador Askar Mussinov Passes Away*

We announce with profound grief the sudden demise of H.E. Ambassador Askar Mussinov, Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) and former Assistant Secretary General (Science and Technology), Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), ( إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ). His Excellency served OIC from July 2019 - January 2024.

We recall his contribution to the process of development of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), the only educational institution as a subsidiary organ of the OIC engaged in the task of educating and training the youths of the Ummah. IUT has greatly benefitted during his tenure with his wealth of experience, sagacity, wisdom and farsighted vision. His contribution will remain in our hearts forever.

Late H.E. Ambassador Askar Mussinov had a distinguished academic career. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Oriental History and Philology with a focus on Arabic language in 1984 and PhD in International Relations in 2002. H.E. Ambassador Askar Mussinov also known as a creative author and editor of books.

Late H.E. Ambassador Askar Mussinov - a famous diplomat and an imaginative mentor -will be remembered as a much-loved colleague and greatly missed by all those who knew and admired him.

May the Almighty Allah give his family members courage and strength to bear the pain of such an irreparable loss - Ameen.

Prof. Dr. M. Rafiqul Islam, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), participated in the Coordination Meeting of the OIC Islamic Universities on 16 January 2024 and the 7th Session of the Annual Coordination Meeting of the OIC Institutions (7th ACMOI) on 17-18 January 2024. The significant events took place at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The OIC Islamic Universities Coordination Meeting provided a platform for reflection and collaboration among Islamic institutions of higher learning. Prof. Dr. M. Rafiqul Islam, as a representative of IUT, contributed to the discussions to foster academic excellence and cooperation among OIC member universities.

Subsequently, on 17-18 January 2024, Prof. Dr. M. Rafiqul Islam participated in the 7th Session of the Annual Coordination Meeting of the OIC Institutions. The meeting addressed various aspects crucial to OIC-affiliated institutions' effective functioning and coordination, emphasizing the collective efforts needed to enhance its role and contributions across different domains.

The gatherings at the OIC Headquarters provided an invaluable opportunity for Prof. Dr. M. Rafiqul Islam to engage with fellow academics, share insights on the achievements and initiatives of IUT, and explore avenues for increased collaboration within the OIC academic community.

*Hon’ble Vice Chancellor attended the Extraordinary Session of the Permanent Finance Committee (PFC)*

A two-member delegation led by Prof. Dr. M. Rafiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Technology (IUT), took part in the Extraordinary Session of the Permanent Finance Committee (PFC) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on 19-21 December 2023.

In the PFC meeting, the Vice Chancellor touched upon a brief statement on the programmes, activities as well as future development plan of the University and stressed the need for increased funding for the smooth running of the University where youths of the different member states of the OIC are studying in a conducive multicultural and multilingual environment.

The University was appreciated for the role that it has played with limited resources over the years in training and educating the youths of the Ummah.

The meeting endorsed the budget of the University for the financial year 2024.

The 50th Meeting of the Governing Board of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), a subsidiary organ of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), was held on 29 – 30 November 2023 at a city hotel. The meeting was presided over by H.E. Prof. Saleh I. Alqasoumi, Chairman of the Governing Board.

The session was attended by H.E. Ms. Wahida Ahmed, Director General (IO) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Md Mahmudul Alam, Joint Secretary at the Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh; H.E. Mr. Berik Aryn, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to KSA and Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the OIC; H.E. Dr. Ammar Taha Lateef Al Dulaimi, Responsible for Arab and Islamic Organizations at Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Iraq; Mr. Mahamat Aldjazouli Saleh, Cultural Counselor at the Embassy of Chad in Riyadh, KSA.

H.E. Secretary General of the OIC was represented in the meeting by H.E. Mr Abdunur M. Sekindi, Director General, Department of Science and Technology.

Prof. Dr. M. Rafiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor of the University, briefly touched upon the programs and activities of the University before the meeting of the Governing Board. Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Acting); Dr. Mwebesa Umar, Registrar; Prof. Dr. Md. Anayet Ullah Patwari, Head at MPE Department, Prof. Dr. Shakil Mohammad Rifaat, Chief of Establishment (In Charge) and Rapporteur were also present in the meeting, among others.

The Board deliberated all the topics on the agenda for the meeting and came up with valuable and significant decisions.

The Board commended for the dedication in the deliberations process, appreciated the outcomes of the meeting, and hoped to work in the coming meeting to realize IUT's ambitious goals.

The Board expressed the hope that with the concerted efforts of all, IUT would gather further momentum to achieve a new height of success in the coming days.

H.E. Prof. Dr. Abdallah Bakhit Saleh, Advisor to Secretary General of OIC and Ms. Aida Toumi, Professional Officer at the Department of Science and Technology, were also in attendance.

OIC Secretary-General Discusses with IUT Vice Chancellor Ongoing Efforts to Enhance International Partnerships

The Vice Chancellor of Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam called on H. E. Mr. , Secretary-General. The two dignitaries discussed mutual collaboration and ways of strengthening the academic performance of IUT.

During the meeting, H. E. the Secretary-General emphasized the need for the University to foster academic excellence, research, and cultural understanding. He particularly stressed upon the importance of making efforts to bring more international students to the University particularly from the least developed countries of the OIC.

The OIC Secretary-General expressed appreciation for IUT’s dedication to promoting educational advancements and its inclusive approach.

The Vice-Chancellor assured the Secretary-General that all efforts will be made to explore avenues for increased cooperation in fields such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics ( ), as well as social sciences with other OIC universities. Dr. Rafiqul Islam highlighted the university's ongoing efforts to enhance international partnerships and create opportunities for students and faculty to engage in collaborative projects on a global scale. The OIC Secretary-General commended these initiatives and expressed enthusiasm for future success of IUT.

**Mr. Muhammad Hamidur Rahman Passes Away**

We announce with profound grief the sudden demise of Mr. Muhammad Hamidur Rahman, former faculty member of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), ( إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ).

He died on a Thursday, 02 November 2023 at Anwer Khan Modern Medical College Hospital. He left behind his family members, a host of relatives, friends, former and present colleagues as well as a large number of students spread all over the world.

Late Mr. Muhammad Hamidur Rahman will be remembered as a much-loved colleague and greatly missed by all those who knew and admired him.

May Almighty Allah give his family members courage and strength to bear the pain of such an irreparable loss - Ameen.

** Team IUT has become the EFL Champions of the Australasian Intervarsity Debate Championship**

Congratulations to Team IUT for winning the EFL Champions title at the Australasian Intervarsity Debate Championship, hosted by Edudrift, in Krabi, Thailand. They defeated Beihang University, China in a thrilling nail-biting final.

The Australasian Intervarsity Debate Championship is a prestigious debate tournament that attracts universities from Asia and Australia since 1975. It is one of the biggest debating events in the world, along with the World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) and the European Universities Debating Championships (EUDC).

The team was composed of Tamim Ahmed from CSE '20, Tanzim Noor Tanmoy from EEE '20, and Evan Ashfaque from EEE '21. Tamim and Tanzim also ranked among the top 10 EFL speakers of the tournament. In the Final, Tamim was awarded the Best Debater.

They were the only team representing IUT and Bangladesh in this year's "Australs" among 60 teams from Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, China, Korea, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh. They received generous sponsorship from National Development Engineers Ltd. (NDE)
