Department of English, VU Hosts Career Guidance Session: "Life After Graduation: Navigating Career Pathways"
The Department of English, Varendra University organized a career counselling seminar titled “Life after Graduation: Navigating Career Pathways” on 18 May 2026. Designed specifically for the outgoing students, the event aimed to equip soon-to-be graduates with the strategic insights needed to transition smoothly into the professional world.
The session was conducted by Md. Shoab Shahriar, Lecturer, Department of English, Varendra University & Nikhate Jannat Binte Zinnah, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Varendra University who provided valuable insights into various career pathways available after graduation.
Through a comprehensive presentation, Md. Shoab Shahriar guided students through the complexities of the modern job market, breaking it down into different pathways. He provided a candid look at the pros and cons of each sector and addressed the common dilemmas faced by fresh graduates. A major highlight of the session was the strategic advice regarding age and experience. For students aspiring to go abroad, the speaker provided some practical advice, including a fresh perspective on the global market.
Nikhate Jannat Binte Zinnah In her speech, Nikhate Zannat Binte Jinnah emphasized the importance of building a strong resume through gaining experience in research, social work, volunteering and leadership opportunities. She also introduced the audience to internship opportunities available for the students of department at different institutions home and abroad. The event concluded with essential "Lessons from Life," where the esteemed speaker shared her own experience of working in a variety of sectors including before starting her journey as an academic. Students were encouraged to adopt a mindset of continuous learning which would lead to their transition from volunteers into future leaders.
The event proved to be highly informative and impactful, equipping students with the knowledge and confidence to navigate their post-graduation journeys effectively. The Department of English of Varendra University remains committed to the holistic development of its students, ensuring they are not only academically proficient but also fully prepared to navigate the challenges and opportunities of life after graduation.

ইংরেজি বিভাগের ক্রিকেট টুর্নামেন্ট শুরু

বরেন্দ্র বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ইংরেজি বিভাগে ‘ইংলিশ ডিপার্টমেন্ট প্রিমিয়ার লিগ ২০২৬’ শুরু হয়েছে । রবিবার, ১৭ মে ২০২৬ সকাল ১০ টায় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মাঠে বিভাগের শিক্ষক-শিক্ষার্থীদের উপস্থিতিতে লিগের উদ্বোধন করা হয়। পাঁচদিনব্যাপী এই টুর্নামেন্টে অংশ নিয়েছে বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থীদের মোট ৬টি দল- অলিম্পিয়ান্স, টাইটানস, ফিনিক্স স্ট্রাইকারস, ইনফার্নো, ইনভিক্টাস এবং ট্রিবাস-৩৩।
টুর্নামেন্টের উদ্বোধনী ম্যাচে ট্রিবাস-৩৩ এর বিরুদ্ধে ৪১ রানের সহজ জয় তুলে নেয় ইনভিক্টাস।
মাঠে এসে খেলা উপভোগ করেন বিভাগের শিক্ষকমন্ডলী এবং শিক্ষার্থীরা। ইংরেজি বিভাগের প্রধান অধ্যাপক মো. শহীদুর রহমান বলেন, "শৃঙ্খলা ও মানবিক মূল্যবোধ একজন শিক্ষার্থীর ব্যক্তিত্ব গঠনের অন্যতম ভিত্তি। ইংরেজি বিভাগে আমরা এমন একটি পরিবেশ তৈরির চেষ্টা করি, যেখানে শিক্ষার্থীরা একাডেমিক শিক্ষার পাশাপাশি দায়িত্বশীলতা, সময়ানুবর্তিতা ও পারস্পরিক শ্রদ্ধাবোধের চর্চা করতে পারে। বিভিন্ন সাহিত্য, সাংস্কৃতিক ও খেলাধুলার মাধ্যমে তাদের আত্মবিশ্বাস ও সৃজনশীলতাও বিকশিত হয়।"
বিভাগের সহকারী অধ্যাপক আবু জাফর মো. সাদি বলেন, “একজন শিক্ষার্থীর সফলতার পেছনে শুধু ভালো ফলাফল নয়, শৃঙ্খলা ও আত্মনিয়ন্ত্রণও বড় ভূমিকা রাখে। আমরা শিক্ষার্থীদের এমনভাবে গড়ে তুলতে চাই, যাতে তারা জ্ঞানচর্চার পাশাপাশি দায়িত্বশীল ও সচেতন নাগরিক হিসেবেও নিজেদের প্রতিষ্ঠিত করতে পারে।”
৫ দিনব্যাপী এই আয়োজনের প্রথম দিনের ম্যাচসমূহ সফলভাবে সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। সবগুলো দলই ফাইনালে খেলার জন্য ভালো প্রতিযোগিতা করছে।

Annual Cultural Program, Prize Giving Ceremony, Graduation Completion Ceremony of BA 30th & 31st Batches, and Farewell to MA 34th Batch Held with Grandeur and Academic Spirit
The Department of English, Varendra University successfully organized its Annual Cultural Program, Prize Giving Ceremony, Graduation Completion Ceremony for the BA 30th & 31st Batches, and Farewell Reception for the MA 34th Batch with remarkable enthusiasm, elegance, and academic fervor at the university auditorium and plaza on 16 May 2026.
The event brought together students, faculty members, university officials, and distinguished guests in a vibrant celebration of academic achievement, cultural expression, and institutional camaraderie. The program reflected the Department’s enduring commitment to intellectual excellence, creativity, and the holistic development of students.
The program’s formal proceedings commenced with recitations from the Holy Quran and the Holy Gita, symbolizing harmony, inclusivity, and spiritual reflection. The inaugural address was delivered by Professor Md. Shahidur Rahman, Head of the Department of English, who emphasized the transformative role of higher education in fostering critical thinking, ethical values, and cultural awareness among students. In his speech, he also reaffirmed the Department’s dedication to maintaining academic distinction and nurturing future scholars and professionals.
A major highlight of the occasion was the Graduation Completion Ceremony of the BA 30th & 31st Batches, during which graduating students were formally recognized for the successful completion of their academic programs. The graduates expressed profound gratitude to their teachers, parents, and the university administration for their unwavering guidance, encouragement, and support throughout their academic journey.
The Department also hosted an emotional and memorable Farewell Ceremony in honor of the MA 34th Batch. Faculty members and junior students extended their heartfelt wishes and appreciation to the outgoing students, acknowledging their valuable contributions to the Department’s academic and cultural life.
The Prize Giving Ceremony celebrated excellence across academics, extracurricular activities, sports, and cultural competitions. Outstanding students were awarded crests and certificates in recognition of their exceptional dedication, merit, and accomplishments.
The cultural segment of the program added further vibrancy to the occasion through a series of captivating performances, including songs, dances, recitations, dramatic presentations, and other artistic displays performed by the students of the Department. The performances received enthusiastic appreciation from the audience for their creativity, aesthetic excellence, and cultural richness.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Md. Abu Yusuf, Associate Professor of the Department, who expressed sincere appreciation to all guests, faculty members, students, organizers, and volunteers for their collective efforts in making the event a resounding success and a memorable occasion for all.
