A Sociedade de Debates da UFC é um Projeto fundado por estudantes da Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Federal do Ceará em 2010. Exercitar o debate aprimora valiosamente habilidades analíticas e oratórias, possibilitando a discussão de importantes questões científicas, históricas, religiosas, políticas, cotidianas, entre inúmeras outras. Isso contribui para o desenvolvimento intelectual e ético
dos participantes, desafiando-os a tornar defensáveis juízos que exigem deles complexa pesquisa, questionamento de hipóteses, avaliação da confiabilidade de dados e informações, e consideração de perspectivas alternativas. Debater estimula e refina habilidades de comunicação, permitindo aos indivíduos falarem não só para outros, mas para si mesmos, descobrir e usar sua própria voz. Acreditamos que além de divertimento, debater proporciona entusiasmo e desafio intelectual únicos. Ao longo do ano, a SdD promove diversos eventos, como cursos teóricos e práticos de argumentação, oratória, lógica, retórica e escrita, cursos e oficinas de assuntos específicos, palestras de especialistas, o Torneio de Debates, entre outros. Realizado anualmente, o Torneio de Debates é executado em modo eliminatório e aberto a alunos de ensino superior. Os temas de cada debate, conhecidos como moções, são diversos. O Torneio segue o modelo inglês, "parliamentary debate" (debate parlamentar). Baseado nas discussões deliberativas da "British House of Commons" (Casa ou Câmara dos Comuns Britânica), o modelo "parliamentary debate" não permite discursos escritos por seus membros. Os debatedores falam de maneira improvisada na competição, utilizando-se apenas de pequenas notas por eles escritas durante o debate e o período de preparação. O "parliamentary debate" difere de outras formas de competições de debates em vários aspectos. "Parliamentary debates" são mais oratórios, espirituosos e acessíveis ao público em geral. Eles são mais curtos que os tradicionais debates políticos, o que os torna adequados à utilização em universidades, colégios e salas de aula em geral. O modelo possui relativamente poucas regras, dá menos margem a utilização de jargões e argumentos meramente teóricos. As regras do parliamentary debate são principalmente designadas a assegurar que os debates sejam equilibrados, uniformes e agradáveis. Em razão do modelo parliamentary debate ser menos técnico e mais fácil de entender que outras formas de debate, todos os estudantes estão aptos a começar a debater nesse formato quase imediatamente. UFC Debating Society is a project founded by students of the Law School of the Federal University of Ceará in 2010. The SdD believes that the practice of debate is a vital part of university education. Exercise enhances the debate a valuable analytical and oratorical skills, enabling discussion of important scientific, historical, religious, political, everyday, among many others. This contributes to the intellectual and ethical development of the participants, challenging them to make defensible their judgments that require complex research, questioning assumptions, evaluating the reliability of data and information, and consideration of alternative perspectives. Debate encourages and refines communication skills, allowing individuals to speak not only for others to listen, but for them as well, discover and use your own voice. We believe that debates provide fun, and also excitement and a unique intellectual challenge. Throughout the year, the SdD promotes several different events, such as theoretical and practical courses of argument, oratory, logic, rhetoric and writing courses and workshops on specific topics, lectures by experts, Debates Tournament, among others. Held annually, the Tournament of Debates works with the elimination mode and it is open to students of higher education. The themes of each debate, known as motions, are different. The Tournament follows the British model, "parliamentary debate". Based on discussions of deliberative "British House of Commons", the model "parliamentary debate" does not allow speeches written by its members. Debaters speak in impromptu in the competition, using only short notes written by them, during the preparations period and during the debate itself. The "parliamentary debate" differs from other forms of competitive debates on various aspects. "Parliamentary debates" are more oratorios, witty and accessible to the general public. They are shorter than traditional political debates, which makes them suitable for use in universities, schools and classrooms in general.
