It's Day One and welcome to all the new students! To help you discover library resources that will help support you as a student and support your assignment's - we've created a guide for you to use when you have the time and need. The New Student Library Orientation Guide gives you the facts and lets you discover more information if you want. We also have an International Student guide to help orientate our International Students to the library (linked through the New Student Library Guide).

We’ve got a new adaptation of Sense and Sensibility coming out on Netflix this month, so what better way to celebrate than to highlight a few recipes mentioned in Jane Austen’s work? White soup is the first of our forays into Regency-era cookery; featured in Pride and Prejudice, this dish has a lot more going on than the name implies, but could still stand a little tweaking (now that we have access to a volume of spices that would make the Bennett’s cook’s head spin). Veal, fowl, a couple of vegetables, white pepper, eggs, and cream make up a soup that takes no less than four hours to come to fruition, and would have been a lovely, thick, protein-rich meal for warming up after a long walk out in the hills. If you’d like to recreate it, just make sure to add some salt at the very least.

As we gear up for fall semester, it's time to reintroduce our library locations. šŸ«

Located in G building, Abbotsford Library features two floors of study space and books, bookable group study rooms and PODs, and computers. You'll also find other amenities neighbouring the Library: the Academic Success Centre, the Math Centre, the IT Service Desk, computer labs, and of course, Tim Horton’s. It’s your one-stop shop to study success!

Our Chilliwack Library has great proximity to nature, with big glass windows looking out on the green. We support Health Sciences, Agriculture, and Trades programs, but we try and have something on our shelves for most topics. Check out the items on display, borrow seeds from the Seed Library, relax with our communal puzzle, colour a picture, or use one of our computers.

Mission Library may be the smallest of our locations, but it's the go-to-place for Education resources. Not only do we have books, we also have a kit room full of curriculum, games, puppets, models, math manipulatives, and more. Even if you're not in an Education program, the Mission Library is a great study spot for students north of the river.

Studying from a distance? UFV Library also has tons of e-resources available through our website. There's something for everyone at the library!

Our last stone fruit recipe is a simple enough creation: individual cherry tarts cradled by layers of pastry arranged like many-petaled flowers! We can make it even easier by using premade pie pastry from the freezer section (no shame in this! We’re all here for the filling, anyway) and following the recipe’s instructions to use syrup-packed canned cherries. If you want to use fresh cherries instead, fill your boots – you’ll just have to make up some cherry syrup to bulk out your fruit, which certainly isn’t the end of the world. There’s even a little cream cheese below the cherries in the finished tarts! There’s very few things more appealing than the idea of these tarts alongside a fresh iced coffee on a lazy August afternoon.

This whole pamphlet is a fun little treasure trove of peach-based recipes, but this one’s a little out of style in the 21st century: ice cream soda, which is literally just ice cream in a tall glass that’s been topped with soda water, is something your gen-Z author mainly remembers from Archie comics. The peach-orange-honey-lemon mixture really sounds too good to pass up, though, no matter how much one may side-eye the rest of the drink. If the soda portion is a bridge too far (or, as is likely, you’re unable to find soda water at the grocery store) then just serve the fruit mixture over ice cream by itself and call it a day – but keep your ice cream selection simple, lest you sentence your peaches to do battle with your dairy.
