St. Francis Xavier Association of University Teachers Information and updates for supporters and members of the StFXAUT, the union representing more than 400 academic workers at St. Francis Xavier University.

The St. Francis Xavier University Association of University Teachers (StFXAUT) was founded in 1957 and in 2005, under the Labour Relations Board of Nova Scotia, became the certified bargaining agent for academic staff. StFXAUT promotes the welfare of the University and its academic staff. Our membership includes full and contract faculty, Librarians and Archivists, Laboratory Instructors, School o

f Nursing and clinical nursing staff, Coady International Institute teaching staff, Academic Skills Instructors, and Extension Department staff. We play a role in advocacy of issues pertaining to academic excellence and integrity at StFX.

The StFXAUT Book Prize is awarded to graduating students who demonstrate a commitment to social justice advocacy and community development on campus or in the community. Each student was awarded Truth and Conviction: Donald Marshall Jr. and the Mi’kmaw Quest for Justice by Dr. L. Jane McMillan, StFX Professor of Anthropology, a cash award of $200, and a $50 gift certificate from the Curious Cat bookstore.

This award is officially acknowledged on students’ StFX University transcripts.

The StFXAUT would like to congratulate Kate LeBlanc, Emma Dixon, and Lauren Pictou.

The StFXAUT stands in solidarity with StFX students and students from other Nova Scotia universities as they rally against the provincial government’s recent cuts to post-secondary education.



We call on Premier Houston and the Nova Scotia government to recognize the unique contributions of the post-secondary sector to our provincial well-being, its impact on the overall viability of the Nova Scotian economy and to continue to support and build our nationally distinguished post-secondary network.

The Coalition for Collegial Governance (CoCoGov) in collaboration with the Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) and the Association of Nova Scotia University Teachers are hosting a conversation about provincially mandated program reviews and Bill 12.

The Townhall is scheduled to take place Monday, February 23, from 630 to 800 PM, at Paul O'Regan Hall, Halifax Central Library, 5440 Spring Garden Road (if possible, please enter via the Queen Street Entrance).

This is currently scheduled as an in-person event, but organizers are attempting to arrange a hybrid option. Will keep you posted.
