Our Trades Discovery for Women program allows students to gain hands-on experience in up to fifteen different trades disciplines.

This is a free program funded by YWCA Higher Ground.

Our Automotive Collision Estimating course is built for people working in the trade who want to step into estimating, advising, or front office leadership. You’ll sharpen your eye for collision damage, learn insurance regulations and repair methodology, build customer communication skills, and get hands on with Mitchell and industry estimating software, all while earning the first part of a BCIT Microcredential.

Visitors got hands-on in our simulator trailer, testing out Zodiac rescue operations like our Bridge Watch Rating students do, and checking out real equipment used in our Marine Mechanical Technician and Marine Emergency Duties areas ⛴️

The BCIT School of Transportation has welcomed a new fleet of eight motorcycles and four ATVs for our Motorcycle Technician Foundation and Apprenticeship training 🏍️

These additions replace our aging fleet and give students hands-on experience with updated equipment 🛵

On July 10th, we opened our shops to women and gender diverse folks curious about careers in Automotive and Motorcycle trades — and it was amazing!

From hands-on activities to connecting with instructors and current students, the energy in the room was full of curiosity, courage, and community. For many, it was the first time picking up a tool — and totally rocking it.

We’re celebrating the outstanding achievements of our School of Transportation students at the 2025 Skills Canada British Columbia (SCBC) Competition. Competing across Aerospace Technology, Heavy Duty Vehicle, and Motorcycle and Power Equipment, they showcased their skills and earned well-deserved recognition:
Aerospace Technology

These achievements reflect the hands-on, industry-driven training BCIT provides, preparing students to excel in their fields. Their success is a testament to the hard work of both the students and their passionate instructors.
This year’s SCBC Competition welcomed nearly 500 competitors across 60 skilled trades and technology categories. Gold medalists like Jimyung Woo and Camila Lobos are now advancing to the National Skills Canada Competition in Regina, Saskatchewan, from May 28-31.
Fun Fact: With 1.12 million job openings projected in BC over the next decade, skilled trades are key to shaping the province’s future.
