Beedie School of Business The Beedie School of Business is the Faculty of Business Administration at Simon Fraser University.

Since the creation of Canada’s first Executive MBA in 1968 and Simon Fraser University’s business faculty in 1982, the Beedie School of Business has emerged as a dynamic teaching and learning institution, with a reputation for producing global-class research for the knowledge economy.

2022 marks the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Beedie School of Business. We are born of SFU’s radical r

oots and have been “redefining radical” throughout our 40-year history. To us, that means boldly stepping up, challenging convention, and changing course to lead in a new direction. This ethos has made us a school of firsts: the 1st in Canada to offer an Executive MBA; The 1st in Canada to offer a Management of Technology MBA; the 1st and only university in North America to offer an Indigenous Business Leadership Executive MBA; and the distinction of being in the 1% of business schools with both an AACSB and EMFD accreditation. Based in the Pacific Rim metropolis of Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, SFU Beedie has established its home in a growing hub for international trade, entrepreneurship and technology. This past May, 55 senior BBA students took part in ELITE, a three-day case competition, delivering solutions for two live cases: a 4-hour healthcare strategy challenge with SFU School of Medicine and a 15-hour competitive strategy case for Merit Kitchens Ltd.

For MBA graduand Vincent Wirasaputra, the journey to business school wasn’t linear, but it was transformative—pushing him to grow beyond his comfort zone.

At SFU Beedie, that growth was amplified through experiential learning, case competitions, and a diverse cohort. Competing in four major events, including the B.C. MBA Games and National MBA Games, Vincent was pushed to think quickly, collaborate effectively, and deliver under pressure. “They pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped build confidence in both my professional and personal growth,” says Vincent.

As he crosses the stage next week, Vincent looks forward to contributing to organizations that prioritize innovation and sustainable growth, while mentoring others along the way. For Wirasaputra, success is about more than career progression—it’s about using what he’s learned to make a difference.

This past weekend, more than 60 Simon Fraser University undergraduate and graduate students from across disciplines came together for the SFU Beedie Business Analytics Hackathon to compete in data analysis and storytelling.

Powered by case sponsors RBC & BCCAI, event sponsor KPMG Foundation, and industry partner Vancouver Analytics Board, this year’s case challenged teams to explore how precision agriculture technology can support stronger operational and financial decision-making for farmers.

Natiea Vinson’s career has always been about best serving First Nations communities and the Indigenous Business Leadership Executive MBA (IBL EMBA) helped Vinson formalize her ability to help nations succeed at the local and national level.

As CEO of the First Nations Technology Council, Vinson says that the IBL EMBA program gave her confidence in her own leadership by observing how others in the program—professors and peers, including chiefs and CEOs—approached their own leadership style. “I was blown away with the calibre of professors at SFU,” she says.

Last week we hosted the first event in our global edition series ‘SFU Beedie Community Connect: Leading with Purpose in a Borderless World’, an evening centered on purposeful leadership.

The evening opened with Elder Terri’s rendition of The Heart Song, setting a reflective and grounding tone. With nearly three decades in international development, including over twenty years at the Asian Development Bank, Marzia shared insights on leading across cultures, emphasizing empathy, communication, and trust in building shared purpose. Conversations continued well beyond the event, with participants reflecting on what purpose means in their own work.

We’re proud to celebrate Pek Hooi Soh, professor and associate dean of faculty and research, on receiving a prestigious international research award, recognizing the global impact of her work in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Soh, along with her co-authors Navid Asgari (Fordham University), Moren Lévesque (York University), and Annapoornima Subramanian (National University of Singapore), has received the 2026 Cheryl Gaimon Best Management of Technology Paper Award from the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS)—one of the top-ranking journals in operations management and listed on the FT50. The biennial award recognizes the most outstanding paper on the management of technology published in the journal Production and Operations Management.

BBA student Anthony Barbieri was selected as a CEOx1Day finalist and had the opportunity to be mentored by Joslyn Young, CEO of the Surrey & White Rock Board of Trade. Through this experience, Anthony gained firsthand insight into how a board of trade operates, from member relations and policy advocacy to the events and initiatives that help strengthen and connect the business community.

“The amount of exposure and opportunity I experienced during CEOx1Day was truly special. Between attending events, connecting with industry partners, and even having the opportunity to speak before the Premier and an audience of 200, I left the week feeling more empowered than I have in years,” shares Anthony.

Last week, more than 100 industry professionals came together to showcase real-world data projects and compete for the Vancouver Analytics Legend title.

Presentations showcased analytics in action across sectors, from TELUS using AI to enhance operations and retention, to Fraser Health improving patient outcomes with predictive analytics, and Vancity leveraging credit risk models for early business intervention.

Beyond the presentations and networking, SFU students took part in hands-on Tableau and storytelling workshops, building the skills and confidence needed for the upcoming Business Analytics Hackathon.
