πŸ“ Are you looking for a place to get some work done, access academic support as needed, AND socialize with peers? That's the sort of environment that Julia and Abeer are creating in their Tuesday Student Learning Commons (SLC) & Library Drop-in in AQ 2002 from 11:30am-1:30pm.

At least one of them will be available for Indigenous student support during the drop-ins and happy to chat about your academic assignments.

πŸŽ‰ Please help us welcome Tia to the ISC Team!

Tia de Groot is a proud Anishinaabe woman and member of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation. Tia is very excited to step into her new role at the ISC as an Indigenous Student Life Coordinator. Before her time at SFU, Tia was an elementary teacher, striving to further Indigenous education and reconciliation efforts within the K-12 school setting.

Tia has worked in similar roles at the University of British Columbia while completing her education. She graduated from UBC with her Bachelors of Education in 2025 and is a proud NITEP Alumni. She is very excited to continue supporting Indigenous Students navigating post-secondary by connecting them with resources and supporting their health and wellbeing.

Tia is looking forward to developing meaningful connections with the SFU ISC community. She is passionate about wellness and self-care, and looks forward to weaving this passion into her work with the ISC. She encourages students to visit her in AQ 2002 for support and connection. In her spare time, Tia loves to spend time outside or cuddle up with her two cats, Belle and Mawka.
