Yuva-The SFU South Asian Student Society

Yuva-The SFU South Asian Student Society We aim to promote the South Asian culture through events we throw on campus and off of it. YUVA, in Sanskrit, means youth.

These include our annual Dinner and Dance Formal Jhankaar, our South Asian Food Festival in the convocation area, Movie Nights, Concerts, and Fundraisers. YUVA at SFU is an organization committed to enriching the SFU environment with the South Asian culture. We aim to accomplish this through a variety of different events this semester. YUVA is open to all SFU students, South Asian or not! Come out

and participate in our events all semester long and message us if you are interested in joining the team! It's an easy way to make new friends on campus and is always a lot of fun! This semester we are holding weekly meetings on Tuesday nights at SFU Surrey at approximately 9pm, so just message one of the executives if you are interested in participating!

Looking for something exciting to be a part of at SFU?

SFU Fashion Week is a platform to promote culture, identity, and fashion within the SFU Community. This is an opportunity for students interested in fashion design as well as other components of the industry to really showcase themselves. Given this event is going into it's second year, we have a feeling it'll be much larger than it's first. Applications are now open, get involved and spread the word!

SFU Yuva is now proud to say they are now officially part of the South Asian Alliance Vancouver (SAAV).

South Asian Alliance Vancouver (SAAV) is a non-profitable, community-oriented foundation that is a result of a collaborative effort of student clubs around the lower mainland. SAAV was founded by a small group of students that see SAAV as a platform for building an exemplary union of youth around the lower mainland that will serve and give back to our community.

SAAV's vision is to help South Asian Youth in the Lower Mainland to make positive strides towards the betterment of our community. These efforts will include yearly events that will fundraise for charitable foundations as well as anti-bullying campaigns, fundraising for the underprivileged, increasing awareness for environmental sustainability.

While SAAV will serve the community as a charitable foundation, it is also a social avenue for South Asian Youth to connect, build new friendships, and expand their respective networks.

Current member clubs include the UBC Bhangra Club, SFU-PSA, YUVA-SFU, SOAR Philanthropic Society & UTSAV UBC. Decibel Entertainment & Just Cakes BC are proud sponsors of SAAV's philanthropic efforts. SAAV is actively encouraging enrollment of other clubs as well as the support of additional sponsors.

The long term success of SAAV will depend not only on the efforts of its current member clubs but also on volunteers from our community who will help strengthen SAAV as a philanthropic foundation.

SAAV is openly looking for new members and sponsors. Please contact us if you are interested.

Follow SAAV on instagram and like their page, as one of the first 200 people to like their page will be entered in a draw to win a pair of tickets to SAAV's New Year's Eve Gala!
