Hey UCalgary writers, it’s your time to shine!

Creative Writing Circle is officially accepting submissions for our annual chapbook, and we want YOUR work to be part of it. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just getting started, all skill levels and styles are welcome — so dust off those drafts and share your creativity with us!

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
– Flash Fiction / Non-Fiction: up to 3 pages
– Play / Script: up to 3 pages
– Poetry: up to 2 pages

FORMAT:
Times New Roman | 12pt | Double-spaced

DEADLINE: TBD (so get writing!)

What a magical night we had last night! ✨ Huge thanks to everyone who joined us for an evening of creativity, romance, and fun. From crafting acrostic poems with our names to vibing to soulful romance music during musical chairs, and soaking in some incredible spoken word performances — it was a night to remember!

A massive shoutout to all our talented participants in the poetry contest! Your pieces were absolutely beautiful. And a special congratulations to our winner, Ariana Nazem, who wowed us with her moving poem “Knowing Love,” dedicated to her special someone. She performed it with so much passion, leaving the crowd speechless. Don’t miss her powerful words in the upcoming issue of *The Firework Arts’ Journal* — trust me, you’ll feel the love.

A big thank you to and for making this event happen! We’re so grateful for your collaboration in bringing together the creative writing community at the University of Calgary. 💙🤎💛

Thank you to everyone who attended our January CWC Write Night! It was a fun time meeting with new and old members of our creative writing community. I hope you all had an amazing night playing games, socializing, and most importantly, writing a piece inspired by the build-a-character prompts we all worked on as a club.

Our next event will be held in February, along with the poetry contest we mentioned at the event. Submissions will open on February 1st, so don’t miss out on this chance to have your poetry recognized!

We hope you had a fantastic start of the winter semester! Lots of fun stuff happening this week and much more to look forward to.

✨CLUBS WEEK✨
Come and stop by Table 29 this Wednesday to chat with us and know more about CWC! We will be there from 9-2pm and we would love to chat with you.

✨CWC JANUARY WRITE NIGHT!✨
On Friday January 24 (5:30-7:45pm), we will be having our first write night of the year! We will be playing writing games, participate in writing challenges, and have a chill writing session while drinking hot chocolate.

✨POETRY CONTEST SUBMISSIONS OPEN✨
As part of our next event happening on February, we will be holding a poetry contest that members and nonmembers can participate in. Details of the February event will be discussed during January Write Night while we will start receiving submissions on February 1st.

Starting 2025 the “write” way! Join us on January 24 (5:30-8:00pm) for some fun writing exercises, meeting new friends, and free drinks! We will be providing some writing prompts to write about and some writing techniques you might want to try to hone your creative writing skills. The event will be held in The Arts’ Lounge (SS 103).
