A promise between two entrepreneurs to support one another in the face of disaster was put to the test sooner than either expected.

After Hurricane Helene destroyed Ashville Tea Company's North Carolina facility in 2024, MRU alum and Calgary-based Sarjesa Tea founder Alexandra Daignault (BA, English ’18) crossed borders to help.

Within a month, The Sarjesa Group was blending, processing and packaging Asheville Tea Company’s products from Calgary. Nearly two years later, the partnership continues as Asheville Tea Company looks ahead to returning home and opening a new facility in Asheville.

For Alexandra, a 2025 MRU Outstanding Alumni Award recipient, it’s another example of how entrepreneurship, community and collaboration can create lasting impact.

A great day on the course yesterday at the 2026 Cougar Classic, presented by Rogers Business! ⛳️🐾

MRU Alumni was proud to sponsor Hole 17 with the support of TD Insurance, where we welcomed golfers to the Alumni Villa. It was fantastic to connect with so many alumni, faculty and friends throughout the day in support of student-athletes at Mount Royal University.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Villa and helped make this year’s Cougar Classic one to remember, and a special thank you to our student-athlete volunteers, Temi and Jackson, who entertained golfers all day!

Yahoo in Blue! Biology alum Sarah O'Brien traded in her lab coat for a crown to represent the Blue Sky City as the 2026 Calgary Stampede Princess.

Having grown up immersed in the Stampede as a Show Rider and volunteer, O’Brien’s rodeo royalty status is a realization of a decade-long dream.
