💐🌍 Take a look at the newest piece in our “International Notes on L. M. Montgomery” collection!

Educator Dagmara Wojciechowska returned to Anne of Green Gables thirty-six years after she had first read Ania z Zielonego Wzgórza in Polish as a little girl. This time, in August 2023, she read the original English version during her first ever visit to Canada and her sentimental trip to Prince Edward Island. This essay reflects on her childhood love of Ania and her new understanding of Anne and Maud.

🚨📚 Countdown to the Conference: Pre-Conference Workshops

Registration for the L.M. Montgomery Institute’s 17th Biennial International Conference, "L.M. Montgomery and Change" is open through Wednesday, June 17th!

In addition to experiencing all of the engaging papers and presentations at the conference itself, you're invited to register for some exciting (in-person) pre-conference Workshops:

👩‍🏫📚"In the Classroom and Beyond: Teaching L.M. Montgomery in the Twenty-First Century"
What does it mean to teach L.M. Montgomery in the twenty-first century? The workshop will engage with how changing contexts—in terms of technology, digital media, remote work and communication, student expectations, the state of the humanities and academia—are transforming what the Montgomery classroom, teacher, and learning look like in 2026. Hosted by LMMI partners and friends!

and/or

✍️✨ "Writing About L.M. Montgomery During a Time of Cultural, Political, and Social Transition"--
Led by members of the LMMI's EDI committee--including Ebony Elizabeth Thomas, Jean Mitchell, and Melanie Fishbane--this workshop will encourage aspiring and experienced writers to workshop pieces they have written on Montgomery’s works from a cultural, political, or social perspective. This is open to all, including people who have not written in this way before, or are thinking about writing on this topic, or people who want to learn how to reframe Montgomery’s works from a more diverse perspective.

Workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, and they are a great way to meet other attendees and kick off your conference experience!

The LMMI is thrilled to announce that we have another digital manuscript exhibit in the works! 👏📚

Thanks to generous funding from Digital Museums Canada and Co-Curators Dr. Elizabeth Epperly (Founder of the LMMI) and Dr. Emily Woster (former Visiting Scholar), the manuscript of 𝘌𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯 will be brought to life. Just like annemanuscript.ca, this project is a partnership of the L.M. Montgomery Institute of UPEI, the Confederation Centre of the Arts and the Robertson Library, UPEI.

The exhibit, titled, "Inspired to Create: L.M. Montgomery Crafting 𝘌𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯," will share the digitized pages of the manuscript alongside contemporary artists' responses to Emily's story and her famous "flash."

📢🚨 Registration for the L.M. Montgomery Institute’s 17th Biennial International Conference, "L.M. Montgomery and Change" is open through Wednesday, June 17th!

Over the next few weeks, we'll share some of the conference highlights and special events. First up is our keynote speaker, Dr. Katharine Slater, who will speak on Friday, June 26 on "Change the Subject: Q***r Opacity and L.M. Montgomery"

Her most recent publication on L.M. Montgomery’s work is titled “‘A ghost you can feel and hear but never see’: Q***r Hauntings in Emily of New Moon,” and her current book project, The Q***r Mobilities of Girlhood in Young Adult Literature, argues that sapphic girls in YA texts grow and move in ways that disturb linear narratives around female adolescent development.

As we face an increasingly complex world, exploring mental health and its many dimensions is more vital than ever. The L.M. Montgomery Institute has curated a collection exploring how Montgomery’s life, works, and adaptations have supported mental well-being in times of turbulence and calm, crisis and peace. From motivation and inspiration to new ways of rethinking mental health, these pieces highlight the enduring impact of her stories.

Montgomery’s works often reflect early twentieth-century attitudes toward mental health, sometimes challenging them, questioning societal measures of well-being, and highlighting the importance of equitable access to resources and support. Her life reminds us that self-worth and meaningful connection remain central to mental health.

🧠🤍 As we enter Canadian Mental Health Week (May 4–10), we invite you to explore “A Celebration of Montgomery’s Legacy: Journal of L.M.
