Last week, IBU hosted Sovereign 2026 in association with Canurta Therapeutics and Toronto Tech Week.

The event convened leaders across industry, academia, and innovation to explore the intersection of AI, decentralized technologies, human performance, and digital sovereignty, including key conversations on Bitcoin and emerging financial systems.

A central milestone was the announcement of IBU’s Master of Science in Applied Artificial Intelligence program. The program is designed to support industry by developing talent equipped to build and apply AI solutions in real-world contexts, with a strong emphasis on responsible and human-centred implementation.

Sovereign 2026 reinforced the growing need for institutions and industry to work together to translate emerging technologies into practical impact. IBU is committed to advancing that work through applied learning, partnerships, and talent development.

IBU was honoured to welcome representatives from the Education Office of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China for an institutional visit and on-site review this Tuesday.

IBU President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Asima Vezina, greeted the delegation and shared the university’s academic vision, innovative learning environment, and strong commitment to student success, research, and international collaboration.

The distinguished delegation from the Education Office of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China included:

- Ms. Meng Zhang – Education Counsellor, Oversight of the Education Office

- Mr. Wenjin Han – Education Consul, University accreditation, education exchange, and Study in China initiatives

- Ms. Ying Wang – Education Consul Chinese language program promotion and National Scholarship Program

- Mr. Feng Lu – Education Consular Officer, Chinese students studying in Canada

We were delighted to welcome a distinguished delegation from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to IBU this week.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen international connections, and explore future collaboration opportunities in higher education, innovation, and student development.

We are excited to celebrate Week 4 winner Dania Noemi Soto Serrano in the IBU Investing Challenge.

This week, students were required to trade in options, while still having the ability to stay active in equities, cryptocurrency and foreign exchange.

Dania rose to the challenge, navigating options with discipline and using the full toolkit of asset classes to stay ahead of the pack.

Next up is Open Trading Week, with the overall winner to be announced in person on May 28 at Sovereign 2026.

We are inviting all student traders to join us, share their experiences in a fireside chat with industry guests and reflect on what they have learned from live markets.
