Aven McKay was feeling nervous about leaving her hometown of Banff to start her first year at the University of Alberta. Today, we’re celebrating the opening of the new First Peoples’ House at the University of Alberta.

For more than 40 years, First Peoples’ House has been a gathering place for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students. Its new 40,000-square-foot space creates more room to gather, learn, connect, reflect and celebrate culture.

Opening on the 150th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6, this new space marks an important moment in the ongoing journey of reconciliation at the U of A.

Congratulations to everyone who helped bring this vision to life. 💚💛
