Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement continuing in or convocating from the Faculty of Arts with a major or minor in German language studies or a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in German. Selection based on academic achievement in relevant courses (as determined by the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies). Preference given to a student with demonstrated volunteerism in Edmonton's German community. If no candidates display demonstrated involvement in Edmonton's German community, preference given to a student with demonstrated volunteerism in social and/or community-based organization(s).

If you or anyone you know is interested in learning more about German culture, please consider signing up for GERM 343 with Dr. Carrie Smith-Prei! It is taught in German, and you need to have completed 212 to register (or talk with the department).

GERM 343: Postwar Cultures: 1945-today, Tues./Thurs. 2-3:20
This course focuses on cultural changes taking place in German-speaking countries from 1945 to the present. We will look at the immediate postwar period, then at divided Germany and “Die Wende,” considering also its effect on other German-speaking countries, and finally we will discuss contemporary issues after 2000. We will focus on how these developments are configured and reflected in literature, film, and other cultural artifacts.
