Our mission is to establish a strong network of students on campus wanting to explore and learn more about the Sikh way of life. We hope to achieve this by promoting the three pillars of Sikhism: Kirat Karni (to earn an honest living), Naam Japna (to meditate on God), and Vand Ke Shakna (to share with those less fortunate) in order to create a strong and active Sikh community at the University of Alberta in solidarity with the larger Sikh community of Edmonton.

Join us as Kulvir Singh, Board Chair, SikhRI Canada, & Harinder Singh, Senior Fellow, Research & Policy, SikhRI, discuss and analyze moments in Sikh History and Sikh decision making, as we focus on Gurmat Principles, the 18th Century, and the 20th Century.

In this workshop, we provide context on the logic and reasoning behind why the Guru's and Sikhs did what they did. What inspired the faith to start? What were the social, political, economic settings of the time? How do we draw inspiration from this into our own lives? Come explore these questions and more.

Join us on Sunday, May 28 at the Garneau Theatre for Kultar's Mime, the hidden story of the 1984 Delhi Pogrom.

Admission is free! Reserve your tickets at http://bit.ly/2qgiWiX.

Kultar's Mime is a devised play that blends painting, poetry, theater and music to tell the stories of Sikh children who survived the 1984 Delhi massacre that was organized in the wake of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination. A collective of young Jewish artists decides to commemorate a 1903 Pogrom that targeted Jews in the Russian town of Kishinev. During their journey, they learn about the 1984 massacre of the Sikhs in Delhi and in a powerful moment of embracing the pain of the 'other', they shift focus and decide to tell a story that the world has largely ignored. The play incorporates text from two poems : Kultar's Mime by Sarbpreet Singh and In The City Of Slaughter by Haim Bialik.
