AN IMPORTANT NOTICE PHILOSOPHERS 🦉
VOTE YES FOR THE FARM
The Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming is OUR ON-CAMPUS LEARNING FARM. It is located off college in the North West corner of the Arboretum.
There are potential and existing opportunities for students of all disciplines.
Currently the farm composts waste food products from the university and grows food for students, food banks and the university chief and offers workshops and hands-on training, and community engagement opportunities to our student body. It is a chance for students to put their hands in the soil, grow food, learn skills, partake in Guelph community building activities and enjoy a beautiful green space!
Anyone can visit the farm and partake in the many opportunities on site!
Your IDEAS for the farm are welcome!
Previously, the Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Agriculture was supported by a major multi-year external donation; however, the term of this ONE-TIME donation has ended. Student support OF THIS MAGNITUDE AND CONTINUITY will ensure the farm remains VITAL AND open AROUND THE YEAR for volunteer and student learning opportunities OF ALL KINDS: visual arts, agriculture, psychology, cultural studies, crop science, music and Veterinary studies. (wild birds, etc)
This student investment would secure the position of site manager (Chief Organic Grower); and the continued operation of the Thursday Market, which, for 10 years, has sold certified delicious food, herbs and flowers to the entire campus and Guelph community
Funding generously INVESTED by students via this fee will signal that the student population at Guelph is serious about a Green Healthy future for all creatures on our campus, & will encourage continued University investment (in money and in kind), and ideally encourage external donations to meet the total funding requirements and further its wide integrated mandate.
YOU CAN VOTE TODAY! The BALLOT is in your EMAIL. VOTE YES FOR THE FARM. Your ideas, YOUR FARM.
