Our orientation event marked the beginning of a new year of connection, learning and empowerment — where mentors and mentees come together to share experiences, build networks and support one another in their academic and professional journeys.

The BIPOC Graduate Student Mentoring Academy aims to provide greater support for Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) graduate students at Dalhousie through mentorship, professional development and networking. Faith Abel-Adegbite, an Occupational Therapy student at Dalhousie and a mentee, reflects on the sense of belonging she experienced through the program.

"Joining the BIPOC Mentoring Academy was a chance to connect with someone who looked like me and understood my experiences. As the only Black student in my cohort, I often felt alone. I saw this program as an opportunity to be mentored by a professional who could reflect my identity, offer guidance from a shared perspective, and help me feel a greater sense of belonging both in my academic and professional journey.”
