Drs. Myles McCallum (SMU) and Martin Beckmann (McMaster) were recently awarded a six-year SSHRC Insight grant ($360,000) for continued research on the nature of Roman villas and Roman rural settlement in the central Apennines of Italy (the Sabine region).

Since 2018, this is the second Insight Grant related to this project. The previous grant facilitated student participation in the project as part of an ongoing archaeological field school. A number of these students have been coauthors on research publications related to the site. This renewed funding will allow us to complete excavation of the site over the next three years and publish our results, in partnership with colleagues in Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

At this session of the Faculty Author Series, Dr. Fischer-Dorantes will offer a look behind the scenes into the creation of the dictionary, touching on the extensive research process, the concept of prefix, and classification criteria to problematic cases.
