Age Reconsidered is a new podcast that challenges conventional thinking about aging and explores what it means to grow older in today’s world.

Created by the Nova Scotia Centre on Aging at Mount Saint Vincent University, the nine-part series launches today, September 9, 2026, with new episodes released monthly.

“I think most people think if we’re this age we should be just getting ready to die. But we’re not. We’re ready to live.”

That’s one of the perspectives listeners will hear in the first episode, setting the tone for a series that invites listeners to see aging in a new light.

Guests include older adults, researchers, and community innovators from diverse backgrounds. The podcast is hosted by Dr. Kelly O’Neil.

Listen wherever you get your podcasts!

We are pleased to share that the MSVU Board of Governors has voted in favour of re-appointing Dr. Joël Dickinson for a second five-year term as MSVU’s President and Vice-Chancellor.

This re-appointment reflects Joël’s strong record of achievement during her first term as President. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, and community partners, she has helped advance several significant institutional priorities.

In the next five years, Joël will guide MSVU forward with purpose. Priority areas include strengthening institutional culture, advancing long-term sustainability, and maintaining momentum on strategic institutional priorities.

Congratulations, Joël!

Today marks a major milestone at MSVU as we welcome the inaugural class of our new Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program in School and Child Clinical Psychology.

With funding from the NS Department of Advanced Education and Office of Addictions and Mental Health, the program will help train and retain psychologists focused on child and youth mental health, including through a new mental health clinic to be opened on campus.

Emily Granter is a student in the inaugural class. “This program is deeply meaningful to me because it represents a commitment to supporting children, youth, and their families, and is the first program of its kind in Canada,” she said.

“My goal has always been to provide children and families with access to mental health care that meets them where they are. This program will allow me to contribute directly to that work while helping to strengthen the mental health system in Nova Scotia. I’m incredibly honoured to be part of the first cohort, to learn from so many skilled clinicians, and to help pave the way for the students who come after us. I couldn’t be more excited for the work ahead!”

A message from MSVU's President to the MSVU community:

The slate is clean. The opportunities are fresh. And crisp notebooks and pens are waiting to be put to use (shopping for stationery supplies was always one of my favourite September rituals!). What will we shape together this academic year?

Right now, new students from near and far are beginning their university journeys at MSVU.

Returning students and transfer students are building on what they’ve already achieved – and some are starting their final year!

Faculty are preparing to educate and inspire.

And staff are readying to support.

None of us knows exactly what the new academic year will bring. But what we do know is that there will be opportunities to learn, to grow, to build new connections, and to discover strengths and possibilities you may not know you have yet.

And you can be assured that MSVU will be here to support you at every twist and turn.

If you see me on campus, please introduce yourself. I’d love to meet you if I haven’t already.

Here’s to a wonderful year ahead. Let’s see what we shape together!
