The Transportation and Environmental Simulation Studies (TESS) group aims to bring the considerable depth and breadth of transportation and environmental research to bear on both local and real-world problems from the perspectives of planning and engineering. The study group focuses on filling the critical gap between academic research, local needs, environmental planning, and public sector transp

ortation planning and operations. As a research group in the Department of Civil and Resource Engineering at Dalhousie University, TESS seeks solutions to problems associated with sustainable transportation, travel demand modeling policies and procedures, public transportation, active transportation, air quality and environmental management, etc. Transportation decisions directly affect our economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, health, and social well-being. Hence, TESS seeks to be a hub for transportation- and environment-related research, with the goals of promoting sustainable transportation and supporting research partnerships at other institutions globally. We publish our research findings and results and present them at local and international meetings and conferences. Any initiative that would facilitate the achievement of TESS’s aims is most welcome. If you have suggestions or wish to make a proposal regarding a potential project or research funding, contact us at [email protected]

If you design a city to get people walking, then people will do more physical activity. A new global study has found that a well-designed neighborhood not only keeps people fit but can reduce obesity, diabetes, and heart disease...

A major study that monitored 14,000 people in very different cities found that walkability is a universal public good.
