We are excited to announce that during the upcoming exam period, Room 103 in the Law Building will be reserved as a dedicated space for individuals of all faiths and spiritualities to take time for quiet reflection, meditation, and prayer. This non-denominational space is open to all students during this period and does not require advance booking.

We are grateful to Deanna Morash, Executive Director of Administration and Finance, and Ross Denny-Jiles, LSS President, for helping to make this happen.

Individuals who require prayer mats are kindly asked to bring their own. Out of respect for all users, individuals are requested to remove their shoes upon entry into the room. Under current COVID-19 safety restrictions, physical distancing is not required but please be respectful of available space; it is not a large room. Masking is required at all times.

*Important Announcement*

The QMLSA has been informed of a new protocol for Muslim students seeking examination accommodations during Ramadan. This accommodation protocol was kindly put in place by the Executive Director of Queen’s Student Wellness Services.

For the upcoming exam period, students will not be required to provide a doctor’s note to verify the physiological impacts of fasting on academic performance.

To receive exam accommodations for Ramadan, Queen’s Law students should follow the steps below:

- Students should make their request directly to the Queen’s University Chaplain Erin Burns ([email protected]) and mention that they are requesting accommodation due to Ramadan.
- The Chaplain will then provide QSAS with the requisite documentation to support accommodations such as extra time on exams.
- QSAS will let the student know how they can download their Letter of Accommodation.
- Once received, students should send the QSAS Letter of Accommodation directly to Helen Connop ([email protected]), Manager of Education and Equity Services at Queen’s Law.
- For further questions about the exam accommodation process, students should reach out to Helen Connop ([email protected]).

The nature of the accommodation will be determined by the University Chaplain, but in these circumstances it usually involves receiving extra time on exams. Note that the Faculty of Law stipulates that all exams must be written during business hours, so it will not be possible to write exams after sundown.

It could take several days to process these requests, so it is recommended that students submit their application to the University Chaplain no later than the last day of classes (April 8th).
