We are an organization responsible for representing the Graduate Students from the School of Computing at Queen's University. We plan events, and lobby on your behalf to the School of Computing, as well as the SGPS (Society of Graduate and Professional Students).

The next event we have planned for graduate students in computing at Queen's is this Sunday February 5th from 11AM-2PM. We'll be ice skating at the Springer Market Square right next to the Kingston City Hall!

All skill levels are welcome, but unfortunately we will not be providing lessons or assistive equipment for balancing. Skate at your own risk and within your comfort zone. You are also more than welcome to join and enjoy the outdoors without skating.

The first 20 people to register through the link in the bio will have their skate rental fee covered (if they need to borrow skates). You must be on-time to have your fee covered since skates can't be reserved! If you are in the first 20 people to register, you'll receive a second email with further details later this week. Guests outside of computing are welcome to join but cannot have their rental fees covered. Regular rates at Trailhead (262 Princess Street) are $10 for 3 hours.

GCS is launching a Buddy Program to assist incoming graduate students. The program's goal is to share experiences and help the new students get familiar with studying at the School of Computing and life as graduate students in Kingston (and Canada generally!).

GCS is looking for volunteers to become buddies for September's incoming graduate students. The new students can benefit from your one-of-a-kind experiences. The time commitment should vary depending on the volunteers' availability, but we don't expect more than 2-3 hours per week.

Ahmad Nagib, PhD Grad Committee Officer, will also be there to chat and hear your feedback and thoughts regarding your experience at the school.

GCS will be hosting a potluck dinner event on Monday December 5th from 6:00PM - 9:00PM at the Queen's University International Centre (QUIC), located in Mitchell Hall #208 (2nd floor) to ring in the holidays.
There will be an ugly holiday sweater competition (all you need to do is wear the tackiest winter-themed sweater you can find), and (maybe) a ping pong tournament! You are not required to bring food, but the more the better.
