Thank you to the industry professionals who joined us as evaluators for this term’s MINE 448 Underground Design Project capstone course. On April 7, 2026, our students wrapped up their final presentations, each group presenting a Preliminary Feasibility Study for a typical underground mine.

We appreciate the time and expertise of our industry guests, who offered practical feedback during both midterm and final assessments:

Congratulations to Orissa Ghai, recipient of the Dean’s Scholars Award for Mining Engineering! Orissa achieved the highest GPA in her discipline in her final year at Smith Engineering. The award was presented at the Dean’s Scholars Dinner on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, by Dean Kevin Deluzio. Department Head Vlad Kecojevic was also in attendance to celebrate Orissa’s outstanding achievement. Well done, Orissa!

We were incredibly proud to host our first-ever Student Awards Banquet on Saturday, February 28 at Grant Hall, Queen’s University. An evening dedicated to celebrating the exceptional achievements of our mining students.

It was truly special to bring together students, alumni, industry partners, faculty, and staff in one room to recognize academic excellence, leadership, and community contributions. The energy in the room reflected the strength of our mining community and the bright future ahead for our students.
