As exams are begining, CSES would like to remind students that "All bags, including Queen’s red bags, handbags, purses and backpacks are not permitted in an exam room, and must be left in the hallway at your own risk. The university assumes no responsibility for personal property lost in or near an examination.”

Bags left outside exam sites are often targets of theft, if you MUST leave a bag, do not leave anything of value in it.

On Thursday, March 26th, at 12:20 pm, Queen's will conduct a 'live test' of the Emergency Notification System (ENS). The test will last about one minute.

The test will consist of broadcasting "Westminster Chimes" (which sounds like the United Kingdom's Big Ben) followed by the following pre-recorded message:

"Attention: This is a test of the Queen's emergency notification system. This is only a test. I repeat this is only a test."

Police warn of on-going taxi scam

The Kingston Police are warning the public of an on-going taxi scam.

Queen’s University and the surrounding area has once again been the target of a “Taxi Scam”. Citizens should be aware of different methods in which this scam is conducted.

The first method involves a victim being approached by one of the scammers, claiming to be a fare that is having trouble paying the taxi. The scammer claims to have had their bank/credit card declined, or that they only have cash, which the taxi driver will not accept.

They then offer the victim cash, in exchange for paying the fare using the victim’s card. The scammers then swap the victim’s card with a similar one and retain the victim’s card for later use.

Another variant includes the scammer asking for the card and inserting it into the point-of-sale terminal themselves, the victim is then instructed to enter their PIN. This provides the scammer with information they need to make further charges to the victim’s account and allows the scammer to quickly swap the victim’s card with a similar one.

The suspects involved in two recent incidents of this scam are described as a south-Asian or middle eastern descent female, 25-30 years of age, approximately 5’ 5” tall who is accompanied by a south-Asian or middle eastern descent male, 30-40 years of age.
The vehicle involved has been described as a grey Mazda SUV with a “Capital Taxi” sign.

The Kingston Police are advising residents to never pay for an unknown person’s taxi with their credit and/or bank cards.

Anyone who believes they may have been impacted by this scam are encouraged to file a report online or contact 613-549-4660 ext. “0”.

St. Patrick’s Day 2026

The Kingston Police would like to thank our partner agencies, the City of Kingston, Kingston Fire & Rescue, Frontenac Paramedics, and the Ontario Provincial Police for their support during and leading up to the St. Patrick’s Day weekend festivities.

Large numbers of students and community members participated in celebrations across the city. The vast majority of those in attendance did so responsibly, demonstrating a strong commitment to keeping celebrations respectful, safe, and in line with municipal bylaws and provincial legislation.

Police and partner agencies maintained a visible, supportive presence throughout the day, focusing on education, harm reduction, and early intervention.

Aberdeen Street was declared a nuisance party at approximately 2:30 p.m. due to crowd size and public safety concerns. With cooperation from those in attendance and coordinated efforts by all agencies, the area was cleared and the declaration lifted by 3:30 p.m.

In total, officers issued four Provincial Offence Notices and made five arrests in relation to the event. All arrests were under the authority of the Liquor License and Control Act (LLCA). Three of the Provincial Offence Notices were issued under the LLCA, with one issued under the Highway Traffic Act.

“Events like St. Patrick’s Day demonstrate the positive impact of open communication and trust between Kingston Police, Queen’s University, and the student community,” said Kingston Police Chief Adam MacIntosh.

“Most students celebrated responsibly and worked with us to ensure the day remained safe and enjoyable. This shared commitment to looking out for one another played a key role in the overall success of the weekend.”
