Reuseology

Reuseology Reuseology will provide Western University students with an accessible alternative to the tradition of throwing everything out at the end of April.

An on-campus philosophy that values reusing, repurposing, and upcycling and aims to alleviate the amount of perfectly-good stuff sent to the landfill each year during the spring move-out period. There are two ways a student can participate. First, students can donate items to Reuseology that they no longer want or need. Second, students can visit Reuseology to check out what has been donated by ot

her students and take any items they need, at no charge. Reuseology will accept donations of items that students no longer need in their student houses. These items may include: books, small appliances, school supplies, kitchen utensils, dishes, pots and pans, and other household products. Although the items may be unwanted by one student, they are still usable and should not be sent to the landfill – essentially recreating the “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure” concept. Donated materials will be weighed in order to report the outreach and impact of this project to the community. Sustainability Western believes that this initiative will greatly help their current diversion efforts. The installation of Reuseology has the potential to positively contribute to a shift in attitude towards a more sustainable-conscious campus, off-campus area, and student body. Reuseology will deter unnecessary waste from littering off-campus student neighborhoods and being sent to landfills.
