Western Psychology Association

Western Psychology Association The WPA is a social/academic club at UWO which runs events to inform students about the psychology program and helps them build their academic profiles!

Welcome to the Western Psychology Association page! The WPA is a social/academic club for those interested in psychology to share interests, gain research/ volunteer opportunities and learn about psychology-related fields. We hold social, academic and volunteer events and provide the opportunity to connect with professors and graduates in the department. If you're a psychology student, the WPA is

your best possible resource. Why every psychology student should be a member of the WPA:
• Networking Night - come meet your faculty, graduate students, and fellow classmates over a glass of wine, and a slice of cheese!
• Career Info Night – Come see what else you can do with a psychology degree!
• Thesis Info Night – What’s a thesis? If you don’t know, then you have to come to our thesis night and get all the info!
• Charity Night – get dressed up, have fun, make new friends, while giving back to the mental health community!
• Volunteer opportunities galore – with the Canadian Mental Health Association, London Distress Centre, or help with our mental health awareness fundraisers!

VP Events Candidate: Kira Nourse She/Her

Hi everyone! I’m Kira Nourse, and I’m thrilled to be running for VP of Events at the WPA!!

When organizing events–drafting proposals, booking a space, and overseeing the event–I’m your girl! Over the past few years, at work and in extracurricular activities, I have had the privilege of doing just this!

Being a part of the WPA has been a highlight of my university experience, and I hope to encourage more students to participate in our events with this position.

I’m grateful for the hard work of the current executives, and I hope you will trust me to do the same for students throughout the 2023/2024 school year!!

VP Finance Candidate: Aditya Thakur He/Him

Hello everyone! I am Aditya, and I am running for the position of VP Finance in the Western Psychology Association. As VP Finance, I will prioritise transparency and accountability in all financial transactions. I am committed to ensuring that the WPA's financial resources are allocated effectively and efficiently to support the needs of the psychology student community. I also recognize the importance of promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion within the WPA, and plan to implement measures to ensure that all financial decisions are made with these values in mind.

I have developed a specific plan to improve financial accessibility for students within the psychology department. This includes introducing funding opportunities through external grants for students who may not have access to financial support for their academic pursuits, such as research projects, conference attendance, and other academic initiatives. These initiatives will enable students to take advantage of academic opportunities that may otherwise be financially inaccessible to them.

In addition, I plan to develop a more robust financial literacy program within the WPA. This will include workshops, seminars, and other resources aimed at improving students' financial literacy and management skills. By providing these resources, I aim to empower students to better manage their finances and make informed financial decisions, both during their time at Western and beyond.

Thank you for considering my candidacy. I am committed to making a positive impact on the WPA and the Western community by promoting transparency, equity, and financial accessibility within the club.

VP Internal Communications Candidate: Maanav Tyagi He/Him

Hi WPA! My name is Maanav Tyagi and I am excited to announce that I will be running for the VP Internal Communications position on WPA!!

For the 2023-24 year, I will be going into my fourth year of my Psychology (BA) degree at Western and I am currently serving as a 3rd year academic committee member. Throughout this year, I have had the opportunity to not only learn more about the field of psychology and meet amazing people, but also implement new strategies and ideas in order to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the psychology program at Western for all students.

Along with serving on WPA this year, I have experience serving as the VP of communications on other clubs. Such a role has required me to maintain records of the meetings, managing the team social media accounts (such as Facebook, TikTok, as well as Instagram), and working alongside the VP of promo in order to develop effective schedules for posting or developing new social media initiatives.

Thank you for your consideration for my candidacy! I look forward to meeting all of you and further expanding and building upon the successes of this team!!

VP Internal Communications Candidate: Stephanie Rodriguez She/Her

Hey WPA!

As an active member of the WPA, I have had the pleasure of engaging with our vibrant and enthusiastic community. Together, as we work towards promoting psychology, I would love to showcase my detail-oriented leadership skills as VP of Internal Communications.

I started at Western as a BMOS student with hopes of conquering the business world. However, as I progressed through first year, I noticed a passion for psychology that I simply could not ignore. Now, I find myself going into my third year as a Psychology Major (BA) at Western.

Due to the extensive experience I gained from past administrative and management roles, I have acquired the necessary skills to thrive as VP of Internal Communications. I will effectively support the WPA team by consistently exhibiting organization, initiative, and drive. Besides being equipped with the skills and work ethic to tackle the role, I value fostering a positive work environment by approaching tasks and meetings with a positive attitude and encouraging fellow team members.

I am a critical thinker and team player, which is visible in the work I produce and the relationships I build. As my passion for psychology grows, I value opportunities in which I can immerse myself in the Psychology program at Western.

I would be honoured to be your next VP of Internal Communications on the Western Psychology Association.

Thank you!
Steph Rodriguez
