Deepening our commitment to establishing global cross-institutional partnerships, Western Education recently hosted delegates from four leading Chinese research-intensive universities to explore opportunities for collaboration.

At the meeting, we were pleased to sign a memorandum of understanding with Tsinghua University’s School of Education. This new partnership will enable activities including research collaboration, joint academic activities and the exchange of students and faculty. https://ow.ly/YetQ50ZHXbR

Congratulations to professor Daniel Ansari, Canada Research Chair in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning, for being elected as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS), one of Canada’s highest honours in health sciences research and leadership.

Ansari is a world leader in the examination of children’s development of math and numeracy skills and is the principal investigator in the Numerical Cognition Lab at Western.

His research is opening new avenues to identify children who struggle with math and address these difficulties before they become lifelong barriers to success. His substantial body of published research informs how researchers in Canada and beyond understand children’s mathematical development and how to teach mathematical thinking.

As a CAHS Fellow, Ansari will support the academy in generating evidence-informed guidance and leadership to address urgent health concerns facing Canadians.

Western Education congratulates Professor Immaculate Namukasa on her reappointment as Associate Dean, Graduate Education, for a second five-year term.

Namukasa joined Western’s Faculty of Education in 2004. She is a professor of mathematics education, curriculum and pedagogy. From 2017 to 2021, she served as a distinguished teaching fellow with Western’s Centre for Teaching and Learning and has contributed to more than 20 university and education committees, task forces and advisory boards.

Immaculate Namukasa’s second term as Associate Dean, Graduate Education began on July 1, 2026.

Deanna Friesen, professor in our bachelor of education program and masters and PhD programs in the field of school and applied child psychology, and chair of applied psychology, shares that she finds pride in helping teacher candidates learn about inclusion and supporting the future helpers in our community.
