As Brescia plans to fully integrate with Western University on May 1, 2024, we proudly reflect on 105 years of excellence in leadership and women’s empowerment.

Serving as Canada’s only women’s university since 1919, Brescia has nurtured countless generations of bold leaders who have dedicated their lives to addressing society’s most pressing challenges.

We are proud of the legacy we have created together, and of our community’s commitment to leaving the world better than we found it.

We know all of you – our students, alumnae, faculty and staff – will continue to emulate the goodness we have built here, and we will be cheering you on every step of the way.

With our eyes, hearts and minds looking towards a bright future, we encourage you to continue embodying the Brescia Pledge by living with honesty and integrity and contributing to the greater good of society. Join us at an Alumnae Community Conversation

Following Brescia’s most recent announcement, we have heard from many of our alumnae. In response to your questions, concerns and wishes, we would like to come together in person with the option to attend online if distance is an issue.

This meeting will focus on preserving our Brescia legacy, serving current students and ensuring our vibrant alumnae community remains engaged. We are eager to ensure all the most brilliant and well-loved parts of our university continue.

It’s a beautiful thing at Brescia when we have the opportunity to celebrate the outstanding work of our bold alumnae.

This year, we are honoured to congratulate Ann Gordon ’78 with the 2023 Carmelle Murphy Award of Distinction. This award is presented annually to an alumna in her reunion year and for Ann, it is a time for us to recognize the impact she has made at the individual and community level throughout Canada.
Ann dedicated her exceptional career to enhancing the lives of rural families and farmers through systemic change. She wore several hats over the years, from Rural Organization Specialist to Executive and Technical Director roles. Throughout each of these roles, she was committed to promoting economic development and prioritizing genuine engagement with the people she aimed to serve. Ann is a cherished part of our community and an ongoing supporter of the young women of Brescia. We are grateful to her for allowing us to share her story.
We are also excited to celebrate Ashley Boyes ’13 as this year’s recipient of the Sister Mary Lou McKenzie Young Alumnae Award of Merit. Presented to an alumna graduating within the last ten years, Ashley is a very fitting example of someone who has shown steadfast leadership throughout the early years of her career, all while emulating Brescia’s legacy of caring for and uplifting women in vulnerable circumstances. Following her time at Brescia, Ashley earned her law degree from the University of Ottawa, where she participated in several internship opportunities domestically and internationally. Now, Ashley is a Regulatory Investigator with Barker Hutchinson. Thank you, Ashley, for allowing us to share your story with our community.

On Sunday, September 24, as part of our Homecoming celebrations, please join our President, Dr. Lauretta Frederking and fellow alumnae for our annual Women’s Leadership Panel. It is during this event that you will have an opportunity to hear from Ann and Ashley, as they reflect on their time in leadership, the successes and challenges she faced and her sentiments on how the next generation of Brescia graduates can take on the world with compassion and enthusiasm.
