Exciting news for international graduates in Canada! The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, just announced that those with an expired or expiring post-graduation work permit (PGWP) will be eligible for an extended work permit, allowing them to stay in the country longer and gain valuable work experience for up to 18 months.

Starting April 6, 2023, PGWP holders who want to stay longer will have the opportunity to opt in to a facilitative process to extend their work permit, helping Canada retain high-skilled talent. Even better, those whose PGWP already expired in 2023 or were eligible for the 2022 PGWP facilitative measure can also apply for an additional 18-month work permit.

If your work permit has already expired, don't worry! You'll still be able to restore your status, even if you're beyond the 90-day restoration period, and receive an interim work authorization while you wait for your new work permit application to be processed. This is fantastic news for international graduates looking to build their careers in Canada.
