✨ Drop-In Peer Support Annoucement ✨

Hi everyone! My name is Belen Blizzard and I am Concordia's 2SLGBTQ+ Student Support Coordinator. My office will now be open for peer-support every Wednesday from 12 to 4pm. You're welcome to drop in at any time or email me to schedule an appointment at: [email protected].

What you can expect: a space of non-judgment and active listening where your feelings and experiences will be honored. I am here to support 2SLGBTQ+ students and hold space for topics ranging from identity, coming out, sexuality, experiences of homophobia and transphobia (and how they interest with race, disability, and more), and how they transpire in and out of the academic space. I am also equipped to redirect you to resources surrounding name and gender marker change, access to hormone and trans affirmative healthcare, and more. Overall, I aim to provide a space in which 2SLGBTQ+ students feel comfortable and safer in sharing their experiences and seeking support. Please email me for my office number, located in the Simone de Beauvoir Institute.

Lots of warmth! ❤️
~ Belen

As part of the 12 Days of Action Against Gender-Based Violence, students from the SDBI have decided to organize a grief circle: an opportunity to hold grief in the palms of the collective. As the world continues to disintegrate under the countless brutalities of imperial and capitalist powers, we invite you to join us for a moment of processing. We believe that in order to build a different world, it is imperative that we allow space to mourn the world as is, to externalize and alchemize the grief into a sense of possibility, together. This event is open to members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their allies.

The event will be held at Star Bar, located at 4671 Saint-Laurent, from 5 to 7pm. We will begin with a movement workshop, led by Lee Ingram, a q***r Black multi-disciplinary artist and movement facilitator. Following the movement, we will share a few poems, and then open the floor for discussion, facilitated by Belen Blizzard, Vanessa Massot and Mar Ibrahim. Pizza will be provided by the wonderful folks .

Hope to see you there,
in grief & solidarity
❤️

Lee’s bio:

WSSSA will be hosting a General Assembly (GA) next Wednesday November 13th, at 11:45 pm in the SDBI library to discuss and vote on a motion to strike. The proposed strike would take place Nov 21-22 to demand our administration cut all ties with the zionist entity. Last march the students voted unanimously to support a BDS motion and commit to withdrawing economic and political support to the Israeli state. The BDS movement aligns with WSSSA’s actions and values opposing oppression, racial violence, ethnic cleansing and human rights violations. Please join us Wednesday to support the fight against financial and academic collaboration with the settler-colonial Israeli state. Zoom link will be made available in our bio. Surgical & K95 masks will be available on site and are strongly encouraged.

Hello all,

WSSSA invites you to join us in conversation with Greta Hofman Nemiroff. In conjunction with the course on the oral history of the Simone De Beauvoir Institute. Greta was active in the institute in the 1970’s and will be joining us to discuss and dream about the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Institute and student leadership. This is a chance to learn from our collective history and bask in Greta’s knowledge and experience at the Institute in the early days. Greta co-taught, with Sister Prudence Allen, the first course on Women’ s Identity and Image at Sir George Williams in 1970. She was involved in CEGEP teaching and in establishing the New School of Dawson College, as well as the Women’s Studies programme at the same institution. She has been an activist throughout Canada and internationally since the 1960s, and held the federally funded Joint Chair of Women’s Studies  at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa (1991-1996). She is committed to student leadership in institutions, and is currently writing her memoirs. The event will take place Nov 07 at 5:45 pm in the ER-672 classroom. Open to all SDBI students & friends of the SDBI. Light snacks will be provided. Surgical and N95 masks will be available on site.
