Every year in August, the second-year Master of Science Applied students (M2) in Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy present their Masters' Research Group project. This presentation ends their final semester and is the last step prior to their final practicum.

This year, presentations began with an engaging talk by this year's Lavigne-Smee Visiting Scholar, Professor Heather Aldersey, Queen's University. She inspired the group by sharing her experience developing and implementing community-based, participatory action research projects related to formal and natural disability supports in the community, and her experiences facilitating partnerships between Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario) and the University of Gondar in Ethiopia supporting disability inclusion at the University and in Ethiopia. The title : Navigating complexity in community development: the value of relationships.

Au mois d’août de chaque année, les étudiant(e)s en deuxième année de maîtrise ès sciences appliquées (M2) en ergothérapie et en physiothérapie présentent leur projet de groupe de recherche. Cette présentation conclut leur dernier semestre et constitue la dernière étape avant leur stage final.

Cette année, l'après-midi a été amorcé par une conférence captivante présentée par la chercheuse invitée Lavigne-Smee, Pre Heather Aldersey de l’Université Queen’s. Elle a partagé son expérience dans l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre de projets de recherche-action participative communautaire portant sur les soutiens formels et informels offerts aux personnes en situation de handicap, ainsi que son expérience de facilitation de partenariats entre l’Université Queen’s (Kingston, Ontario) et l’Université de Gondar, en Éthiopie. Le titre de sa conférence était : « Naviguer dans la complexité du développement communautaire : la valeur des relations. 👏

Learning, collaborating, and plenty of smiles at our recent Continuing Professional Development Advanced Orthosis Workshop!
Occupational therapists spent the day learning, fabricating, and refining static progressive, serial static and dynamic upper extremity orthoses with Professor Barbara Shankland.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. More workshops are planned for Fall 2026!

Apprentissage, collaboration et beaucoup de sourires lors de notre récent atelier niveau avancé de fabrication d'orthèses en formation continue!
Des ergothérapeutes ont passé la journée à apprendre, fabriquer et perfectionner des orthèses statiques progressives, statiques en série et dynamiques pour le membre supérieur avec la professeure Barbara Shankland.
Merci à toutes les personnes qui se sont jointes à nous. D'autres ateliers sontprévus à l'automne 2026!

Congratulations Professor Mak! Félicitations !

Au cours de ses 20 années de carrière à McGill University, Susanne Mak a apporté une contribution exceptionnelle à la formation en ergothérapie, menant le programme à obtenir une note de 94 sur 100 lors de l’évaluation d’agrément. Elle a rédigé les lignes directrices en matière de documentation en ergothérapie à la suite d’une consultation rigoureuse et a mis sur pied le programme de mentorat en ergothérapie, qui en est maintenant à sa dixième année et qui soutient des centaines de membres de la communauté étudiante, de cliniciennes et de cliniciens.

Son leadership s’étend à sa représentation au sein de l’Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec ainsi qu’à ses contributions à l’échelle nationale au sein du conseil d’agrément de la formation universitaire de l’ACE et à ses consultations avec Santé Canada sur la main-d’œuvre.

Susanne Mak has demonstrated exceptional contributions to occupational therapy education throughout her 20-year career at McGill University, leading the program to achieve 94 out of 100 indicators during accreditation review. She created the OT Documentation Guidelines through rigorous consultation and established the OT Mentoring Program, now in its 10th year, supporting hundreds of students and clinicians.

Her leadership extends to representation of the Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec and national contributions to the CAOT Academic Credentialing Council and Health Canada workforce consultations.
