“I have been very honest and open about the grind of daily assignments to get to the few that touch or change people’s lives. Those are the assignments we live for, but I will not sugar coat the daily work, it is still the best career one could hope for," says part-time faculty Allen McInnis, award-winning Montreal Gazette photojournalist.

What is a career in photojournalism like? McInnis showed students this semester that it is a career worthwhile.

“We love this idea so much. It sits brilliantly at the intersection of journalism, civics and community organizing,” says Dr. Magda Konieczna, Associate Professor of Journalism.

Konieczna is one of the people leading a new partnership between the Department of Journalism and Toronto-based publication, The Green Line, that trains community members to document public meetings in their own communities.

The goal of the partnership is to increase the amount of local news and information in communities, equipping participants with the skills of journalism to get democratically involved.
