We're proud to celebrate Professor Emerita Laurette Dubé, recipient of the McGill University Medal for Exceptional Academic Achievement, the University's highest academic honour.

Presented at the management convocation ceremony, this recognition reflects nearly 30 years of scholarship that has consistently moved from insight to impact. Professor Dubé has authored more than 175 publications, ranks among the top 2% of scientists worldwide in both marketing and nutrition and dietetics, and has helped mobilize more than $68 million in research and implementation initiatives through the McGill Centre for the Convergence of Health and Economics, which she founded.

Pension funds are sticking with private credit even as scrutiny intensifies around valuations, transparency and sector risk. Sebastien Betermier, Associate Professor of Finance, points to a structural edge: "Large institutional investors have an advantage: their scale and long investment horizons allow them to hold less liquid assets."

As banks retreat under tighter capital rules, pension funds are stepping into the gap, but Betermier cautions that rising retail participation could amplify liquidity risks, raising the stakes for manager selection and governance. https://www.mcgill.ca/x/5mf

The Desautels Cup lasts one day. The lessons carry much further.

In February, MBA students had six hours to analyze a live business case, then stepped in front of alumni judges from over four decades of the Desautels community. This year's case came from Daniela Suarez, BCom'18, CEO and Founder of Ēvolvō Studio Inc., who once drafted early business plans in a Desautels classroom and returned this year as founder and judge.

Congratulations to the 2026 Desautels Cup winners: Doyin Agbaje, Rutger Boelen, Oreoluwa Alabi and Munim Hussain.

Canadian tourism to the U.S. has dropped 42% overall and up to 65% in some cities, according to a new University of Toronto report. The data suggests the boycotts weren't just symbolic. They worked.

"The decline can be painful for U.S. regions that depend on tourism," says Vivek Astvansh, Professor of Quantitative Marketing at McGill Desautels, adding that the trend could persist as long as trade tensions remain unresolved and Canadian businesses redirect ties toward new partners.https://www.mcgill.ca/x/5mk

Last March, the Laidley Centre for Business Ethics and Equity, Desautels' EDI Team and the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Initiative (E&I) hosted She Builds: Stories of Immigrant Women Entrepreneurs, bringing together over 75 participants for an evening of film, conversation, and community.

Following a screening of How She Dares by McGill alumna Zoonie Nguyen, a panel featuring Nguyen, Hala Scandar, and Shauna Callender reflected on resilience and purpose in building businesses in Canada. The event was a reminder that when stories are shared, communities grow stronger. https://www.mcgill.ca/x/5Wv

A recent Chinese court ruling restricting AI-driven demotions and dismissals is prompting reflection on Canada's own preparedness for AI-led labour disruption.

Simon Blanchette, Desautels faculty lecturer, notes that implementing similar protections in Canada would be challenging given the country's decentralized labour system but argues the more urgent priority is readiness.

"AI today is as weak as it will be in our lifetime."

Without coordinated action on education, reskilling and legislation, workers risk being left behind as the technology advances. https://www.mcgill.ca/x/5WF
