Congratulations to Nathan Young on officially being confirmed as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa.

After serving as Interim Dean, Professor Young begins this new mandate with a vision focused on collaboration, innovation, inclusion and community engagement. He has also emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the Franco-Ontarian community and reaffirmed that la Francophonie is a central part of the Faculty’s identity — an important commitment that reflects the Faculty’s bilingual and inclusive mission.

His leadership and commitment to interdisciplinary research and today’s major societal challenges will continue to strengthen the Faculty’s impact within the University and beyond.

The Faculty of Social Sciences wishes him great success in this new chapter and looks forward to continuing its work under his leadership.

Félicitations à Nathan Young, officiellement confirmé à titre de doyen de la Faculté des sciences sociales de l’Université d’Ottawa.

Après avoir occupé le rôle de doyen intérimaire, le professeur Young entame ce nouveau mandat avec une vision axée sur la collaboration, l’innovation, l’inclusion et l’engagement communautaire. Il a également souligné l’importance de renforcer les liens avec la communauté franco-ontarienne et a réaffirmé que la francophonie constitue un élément central de l’identité de la Faculté — un engagement important qui reflète la mission bilingue et inclusive de la Faculté. ()

Son leadership et son engagement envers la recherche interdisciplinaire et les grands enjeux de société continueront de renforcer le rayonnement de la Faculté au sein de l’Université et au-delà.

La Faculté des sciences sociales lui souhaite beaucoup de succès dans cette nouvelle étape et se réjouit de poursuivre son travail sous sa direction.

Congratulations to Khalil Habrih, PhD graduate in Anthropology at the University of Ottawa, on receiving the Governor General’s Gold Medal for 2025 — one of Canada’s highest academic honours for graduate studies.

Awarded in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in the Humanities, Khalil received this prestigious distinction for his doctoral thesis: “The ‘New Gate of Paris.’ Planning, Topography, and Q***r Affect in the 18e Arrondissement.”

His work reflects the excellence, innovation and social impact of research taking place within the Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies.

Félicitations à Khalil Habrih, diplômé du doctorat en anthropologie de l’Université d’Ottawa, qui a reçu la Médaille d’or du Gouverneur général 2025 — l’une des plus hautes distinctions académiques au Canada pour les études supérieures.

Remise en reconnaissance d’une réalisation académique exceptionnelle dans le domaine des sciences humaines, cette prestigieuse distinction lui a été attribuée pour sa thèse de doctorat : « The “New Gate of Paris.” Planning, Topography, and Q***r Affect in the 18e Arrondissement ».
