Join us at the Atelier for a conversation with Alex Hanna, co-author of "The AI Con: How to Fight Big Tech’s Hype and Create the Future We Want", in discussion with Kelly Bronson from the University of Ottawa.

In this book, Alex Hanna and Emily M. Bender challenge the exaggerated promises surrounding artificial intelligence. They examine how AI hype can help legitimize the growing power of Big Tech, expand surveillance, and reshape work, while obscuring the social and environmental consequences of these technologies.

À l’occasion de la Semaine nationale de l’accessibilité, notre professeure Julie Châteauvert a participé à la série de balados L’USP en conversation.

Dans cet épisode, Julie nous invite à repenser les langues des signes non pas simplement comme des outils de communication, mais comme des langues à part entière, porteuses d’identité, de culture, de savoirs et de résistance politique.

Reconnaître les langues des signes, c’est aussi reconnaître les communautés qui les font vivre ainsi que les enjeux de justice, d’inclusion et d’accessibilité qui les concernent.

As part of National AccessAbility Week, our professor Julie Châteauvert participated in the USP in Conversation podcast series.

In this episode, Julie invites us to rethink sign languages not simply as communication tools, but as languages in their own right—carrying identity, culture, knowledge, and political resistance.

Recognizing sign languages also means recognizing the communities that sustain them, as well as the issues of justice, inclusion, and accessibility that affect them.

✨ Le Forum francophone sur l’Innovation Sociale Immigrante a connu une magnifique édition!

Organisé par notre étudiant au doctorat Jean Christian MBOG BISSENI, PhD, cet événement a offert une journée riche en idées, en rencontres et en collaborations, démontrant à quel point la communauté francophone est dynamique, créative et engagée.

L’École d’innovation sociale Élisabeth-Bruyère a eu le plaisir d’être partenaire de cette belle initiative, aux côtés de nombreux organismes, associations et acteurs communautaires.

Avec plus de 150 participant·e·s et plus de 20 organisations représentées, le Forum a créé un espace précieux de dialogue, de réseautage et de réflexion autour de l’innovation sociale et de l’immigration francophone.

📅 Le rendez-vous est déjà pris pour l’année prochaine!

Nous vous tiendrons informés des prochaines étapes, des collaborations à venir et des nouvelles occasions de participation.

✨ The Francophone Forum on Immigrant Social Innovation was a tremendous success!

Organized by our PhD student Jean Christian MBOG BISSENI, PhD, the event brought together a vibrant community for a day filled with ideas, meaningful conversations, and new collaborations.

The Élisabeth-Bruyère School of Social Innovation was proud to be a partner in this inspiring initiative, alongside numerous community organizations, associations, and institutional partners.

With more than 150 participants and over 20 organizations represented, the Forum provided a valuable space for dialogue, networking, and reflection on immigrant social innovation and Francophone communities.

📅 We are already looking forward to next year’s edition!

Stay tuned for future collaborations, upcoming initiatives, and new opportunities to get involved.

🎙️ Notre professeur Simon Tremblay-Pepin était à Radio-Canada!

Ce mardi 3 juin, le professeur Simon Tremblay-Pepin de l’École d’innovation sociale Élisabeth-Bruyère a participé à l’émission Pénélope de Radio-Canada pour une discussion stimulante sur le lobbyisme et ses pratiques, aux côtés de la professeure Stéphanie Yates (UQAM).

Ils soutiennent toutefois que des déséquilibres dans cette pratique peuvent poser des problèmes éthiques et nous invitent à réfléchir aux enjeux de transparence, d’influence et de démocratie qui l’entourent.

🎙️ Our Professor Simon Tremblay-Pepin Was on Radio-Canada!

On June 3, Professor Simon Tremblay-Pepin from the Élisabeth-Bruyère School of Social Innovation appeared on Radio-Canada’s Pénélope for an engaging discussion on lobbying and its practices, alongside Professor Stéphanie Yates (UQAM).

They argue that imbalances in lobbying practices can raise important ethical concerns and invite us to reflect on issues of transparency, influence, and democracy.

✨ Meet our professor Simon Tremblay-Pepin!

Last but not least, we are proud to introduce Simon Tremblay-Pepin, one of the founders of the Élisabeth-Bruyère School of Social Innovation in 2016.

Simon holds a PhD in political science from York University and a master’s in economics from Paris-I Panthéon-Sorbonne. His research focuses on postcapitalist political economy, public finance, media critique. His work explores alternatives to capitalism, democratic economic planning, and the possibilities of social and solidarity economies.

Since 2018, Simon has been one of the coordinators of the research group on democratic economic planning at the Research Centre on Social Innovation and Transformations (CRITS), which examines theoretical models of postcapitalist political economy and their possible applications to Québec’s economic sectors.

Le dernier, mais non le moindre : nous sommes fiers de vous présenter Simon Tremblay-Pepin, l’un des fondateurs de l’École d’innovation sociale Élisabeth-Bruyère en 2016.

Simon est titulaire d’un doctorat en sciences politiques de l’Université York et d’un master en économie de Paris-I Panthéon-Sorbonne. Ses recherches portent sur l’économie politique postcapitaliste, les finances publiques et la critique des médias. Ses travaux explorent les alternatives au capitalisme, la planification économique démocratique et les possibilités offertes par l’économie sociale et solidaire.

Depuis 2018, Simon est l’un des animateurs du groupe de recherche sur la planification économique démocratique au Centre de recherche sur l’innovation sociale et les transformations (CRITS). Ce groupe analyse les modèles théoriques et les expériences pratiques en économie politique postcapitaliste et leurs applications possibles aux secteurs économiques du Québec.
