PASSIONATE ABOUT MEDICINE? 👩🏽‍⚕️ The Association of Black Aspiring Physicians (ABAP) is recruiting - APPLY NOW!

We are looking for enthusiastic, driven and organized students to be part of our executive team. This is a great way to get involved in leadership and to cultivate collaborative relationships with medical professionals. Students from all faculties are welcome and encouraged to apply!

Learn more about our third speaker of the event, Dr Idara Edem!

Dr. Edem is a 6th year Neurosurgery resident at the University of Ottawa, The Ottawa Hospital. She obtained my Honours BSc from the University of Toronto, with a Specialist in Neuroscience, and double minors in Psychology and African Studies.

Dr. Edem completed her medical school training at Queen's University and now works as a resident in Ottawa. She also obtained a MSc in Global Health and Global Surgery from the UK, during her residency training.
She will be completing a fellowship in Skull Base Neurosurgery next year in Houston, Texas, and hopes to return to Canada to practice as a Skull Base/Neuro-Oncology neurosurgeon!

Dr. Edem is speaking from 6:30-7:00pm on Tuesday, March 5th in STEM 117!

Altitude healthcare mentoring is an ontario program that partners medical students and undergraduate students from underrepresented populations, including rural and minority groups, to help them explore and achieve their dreams of a career in healthcare.
>> Mentorship will encompass one-on-one mentoring with monthly mentorship activities.
>> Pay it forward: selected mentees are encouraged to engage in an initiative that supports younger students in reaching their full potential.
>> Mentee applications are due October 1st.

Less than 60 years ago, hopeful and brilliant minds were still being rejected from medical school in North America for the colour of their skin. Today, we celebrate our union, our freedom and the privilege we have to practice Medicine in advocacy for the health of all people.

The uOttawa Black Medical Students Association would like to thank the Staff and Resident doctors for taking time out of their busy schedules to come, inspire and uplift the upcoming generation in our first Meet and Greet!
We also thank the Black Physician Association of Ontario, the Aspiring Black Physicians Association and MD Financial for their support. Cheers to the newly encouraged students who've come and cheers to a new BMSA tradition!

This Thursday April 26th, 6-8pm, uOttawa BMSA is partnering with the Association of Black Aspiring Physicians @ UofO and Black Physicians Association of Ontario for a wonderful and inspiring meet & greet with Black medical students along with residents and doctors from various specialities (Family Medicine, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, Paediatrics, Anesthesiology... ect!). This event is perfect for current and aspiring medical students!
