Calling all parents! Participate in a fun activity with your baby and contribute to science from the comfort of your home!

We are looking for babies aged 13-18 months to participate in an exciting new study at the University of Ottawa. Our study is fun and informative and aims to examine how bilingual and monolingual babies learn language. Participation involves a one-time virtual visit with our researchers on Zoom. The activity will take about 15 minutes. We have both weekday and weekend appointments available.

~Calling all parents of children aged 3 to 6 years old!~
While the Childhood Thinking Lab is temporarily closed due to COVID-19, we invite you to participate in an online research study on parents' and children's thoughts and information gathering, both during the COVID-19 pandemic and in general. This study requires filling a survey available online, which includes questions on the following subjects:
• Demographic and general information about yourself, your child and your family;
• Questionnaires asking you to reflect about your and your child’s information gathering and well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic;
• Questionnaires asking you to reflect on your thoughts about critical thinking during the COVID-19 pandemic and more generally.

To participate, parents must be at least 18 years of age and have an excellent understanding of written English and/or French. The entire survey takes approximately 30 minutes to complete; however, if you do not have time to complete it in one sitting, you are able to save your answers and return to complete it at a later point.

~Appel à tous les parents d'enfants de 3 à 6 ans!~Bien que le Laboratoire sur la pensée des enfants soit temporairement fermé en raison de la COVID-19, nous vous invitons à participer à une étude de recherche en ligne sur l’accès à l’information et les pensées des parents et de leurs enfants, à la fois pendant la pandémie et en général. La participation à cette étude nécessite de compléter un sondage disponible en ligne, qui comprend des questions sur les sujets suivants:
• Informations démographiques et générales sur vous-même, votre enfant et votre famille;
• Questionnaires vous demandant de réfléchir sur l’obtention d'informations par vous-même et votre enfant et sur votre bien-être pendant la pandémie de COVID-19;
• Questionnaires vous demandant de réfléchir sur la pensée critique pendant la pandémie ainsi qu’en général.

Pour participer, les parents doivent avoir au moins 18 ans et avoir une excellente compréhension du français et/ou de l’anglais écrit. Le sondage prend environ 30 minutes à compléter; cependant, si vous n'avez pas le temps de le compléter en une seule séance, vous pouvez enregistrer vos
réponses et revenir le compléter ultérieurement.

The CTL is now offering an online version of one of our studies so you can participate from home! See below for further details and how to sign up:

In this study, we look at children’s learning and their cognitive skills. This study is aimed at children ages 6 to 8 years inclusive, who are developing typically (i.e., who do not have any developmental delay or any uncorrected visual or auditory impairment). The study takes place online via GoogleMeet and involves a visit of 15 to 20minutes. In this study, your child will play a series of short games with an experimenter involving cartoon characters, short video clips, and a variety of toys and pictures. These tasks evaluate for example how the child decides between different sources of information, so for example if two people provide contradictory information. Most of the questions are simple yes-no questions or questions that require the child to pick one object among a series, and we write down each child’s answers during the study. As part of the study, we ask parents to fill out questionnaires pertaining to family demographics. To thank participants, you receive a small present at the end of the study in the form of an e-gift card. **Please note, this online study is currently only available in English and you will require a computer with camera and microphone in order to participate.**

L’équipe du Laboratoire sur la pensée des enfants tient à cœur le bien-être de toutes les familles et nous pensons à vous durant cette période de confinement! We are looking for infants and children ages 3 months to 8 years to participate in fun studies at the University of Ottawa. Our studies are like games and aim to examine cognition, language learning, and moral development. Participation involves a one-time visit to the University of Ottawa’s Child Development Laboratories and typically takes less than an hour. We have both weekday and weekend appointments available (mornings and afternoons).

The 2016-2017 academic year has finally wrapped up, and several members of our lab team have had the opportunity to discuss ongoing studies at internal, national and international conferences! We celebrated the end of term and work well done with an outing to the sugar shack. *********

Le Laboratoire sur la pensée des enfants à l'Université d'Ottawa (Chercheure principale: Patricia Brosseau-Liard, Ph.D.) invite les parents d'enfants à participer à une étude de recherche sur le développement du comportement des enfants. Cette étude porte sur le développement des enfants au développement typique de 32 mois à 5 ans inclusivement. L'étude nécessite une ou deux visites de 45-75 minutes à l'Université d'Ottawa et est présentée comme un jeu pour les jeunes enfants. Les enfants reçoivent un petit cadeau pour leur participation.

Happy New Year from the Childhood Thinking Laboratory! 2017 brings a continuation of our ongoing studies and possibly new studies in a few months. As always, we're happy to hear both from past participants and new families interested in our research!

Bonne Année de la part du Laboratoire sur la pensée des enfants! 2017 apporte pour l'instant la suite de nos études en cours et possiblement de nouvelles études dans quelques mois. Comme toujours, nous sommes heureux d'avoir des nouvelles d'anciens participants ainsi que de nouvelles familles intéressées par notre recherche!
