Wendy’s creativity and passion for the arts are at the heart of the Loyalist Arts Experience program. Through Wendy’s leadership, the program not only celebrates the incredible creative talent in our region, but also creates meaningful opportunities for artists and makes the arts more accessible to our community in many ways.

Receiving a Quinte Arts Council Arts Recognition Award is a wonderful acknowledgment of Wendy and the impact she continues to have on the arts and creative community in our region. We are so proud!

Each year, the QAC recognizes individuals and artist groups or businesses who have made a difference in the arts community.

Our Fall 2026 lineup includes gouache, watercolour, acrylic painting, plein air, portraiture and figure drawing, along with glass fusing, basket weaving, rug hooking, collage and more!

Looking for something festive? Create a rug-hooked heirloom stocking, needle-felted holiday ornament, evergreen wreath or beautifully decorated holiday cupcakes.

🎨 Design Your Own Papers 🎨 Spots are still available!

Join artist Kim-Lee Kho for a fun, hands-on week of exploring acrylic painting, stamping, printing, stenciling, rolling, and more as you create your own collection of beautiful handcrafted papers. You'll experiment with a variety of techniques while learning simple design principles through demonstrations and inspiring examples.

By the end of the week, you'll have a unique collection of custom papers to use in future projects like collage, greeting cards, home décor, jewellery, and gifts—plus several finished pieces to take home.

✨ Spots are still available! Join Alice Vander Vennen for Mixed Media Assemblages this July 20–24 in Port Hope.

In this week-long course, you'll combine fibre art with natural materials to create a framed, stitched, three-dimensional textile assemblage. Explore the rich textures, brilliant colours and delicate lines of stitched textiles alongside the beauty of an imprinted stone, a gentle branch or a fragile leaf.

Incorporate glowing copper wire, fabric transfers of treasured photographs, or tell a story using remnants of an heirloom quilt. Work with a variety of textiles—including your own stitched, embroidered or embellished pieces, new fabrics and found textiles that catch your eye or speak to your heart.

Alice will also guide you through the process of finishing, mounting and framing your artwork, leaving you with a beautiful piece ready to display.

☀️ We spent a beautiful summer day in Northumberland this past weekend with two incredible workshops!

🐝 At Northumberland Bees, participants made their own beeswax candles, took part in a hive inspection, sampled local honey and learned about the fascinating and complex world of bees.

🎨 Across the way at Haute Goat, plein air painters spent the day capturing the rolling hills and countryside of Northumberland on canvas. The day wouldn't have been complete without a goat cuddle or two, the perfect creative break! 🐐

From buzzing hives to paint-covered palettes, the day was filled with learning, creativity, connection and plenty of smiles.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make these experiences so memorable. We can't wait to do it again!

🌟 Spotlight on kids camps in Belleville 🌟

Our creative camps are designed with kids at the centre of the experience. Across each week, children explore, create and build confidence through hands-on projects that help them try new ideas and discover what they’re capable of as young artists.

This July, campers will be taught by Rebecca Reynolds, an accomplished artist and educator with over 25 years of experience working with children in art centres, galleries, museums, libraries, camps and classrooms. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University and a teaching degree from Nipissing University and is currently completing her Master’s.

Her expressive, process-driven curriculum encourages experimentation while helping kids develop their creative voice. Campers are introduced to a range of artists, mediums and styles through engaging themes and techniques that bring learning to life in a memorable way.

What campers can expect:

Learn gouache this summer!🎨

Used by manuscript artists as early as the 1500s and embraced by painters and illustrators for centuries, this versatile medium is making a vibrant comeback. Fast drying, portable and richly opaque, gouache is perfect for everything from travel sketching to more focused studio work.

You’ll explore what makes gouache so unique, from painting light over dark to building bold areas of colour and creating that beautiful soft matte finish. Through demos and personalized guidance, you’ll create colourful landscapes using both provided references and your own images.

Whether you’re new to painting or looking to try something different, this course offers a fresh and accessible way to expand your practice. The skills you build will also carry over into acrylic, oil and traditional watercolour.
