Vet Micro PhD candidate Alexandra Foley-Eby has recently published an article in Science Direct. This paper represents the majority of the important findings of her PhD, which focussed on maternal immunity in mice (as a model for natural reservoir hosts) and the effects of confection in dams. Namely, she discusses how confection of the mother mouse with two strains of the causative agent of Lyme disease can reduce the protection provided to her offspring when they face a later challenge. This paper offers adapted and novel methods for detecting strain-specific IgG responses in both serum and milk, and explores the finite and strain-specific nature of maternal immunity.
