On Thursday, August 27th we gathered at Saskatoon's Northeast Swale for our first askiy workshop of the fall.
paskwāhk ka-māmiskōtamihk: “Gathering to Discuss Grasslands Conservation” was led by kēhtē-ayak (Elders) Joseph Naytowhow and Roland Duquette along with Community Engaged Artist, Cheryl L'Hirondelle. This event was offered in partnership with our friends at Meewasin. Participants heard beautiful songs, participated in an activity, and had an opportunity to share about their appreciation for grasslands. It was a wonderful evening.

Our friends at the Office of the Treaty Commissioner (OTC) and @ᐯᒥᐢᑲ Pêmiska Tourism https://www.facebook.com/ComeFindIt supported Treaty 6 First Nations in various gatherings to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 6. We were honoured to attend on August 21, 2026, at Fort Carleton Provincial Park to support the OTC and their Youth Advisory Committee in the Youth Tent.

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day and this year it is extra special for us. We spent the last five days with members from the Indigenous Kinship Circle from across Turtle Island as they visited us for a special reason to do strategic planning for an exciting initiative called Indigenous Grasslands Stewardship and Knowledge Exchange Network funded by the Weston Family Foundation. We will post a link in the comments and share more about our week in the coming days. Here is a quick glance at the amazing week with our guests.

We spent May 13-14, 2026, at the Wild Buffalo Summit discussing the wholistic view of the buffalo’s ecological, economic, cultural and spiritual importance on the prairies.
Key actors and rights holders continued the conversation from the inaugural Wild Buffalo Summit that was held in February 2025, hosted by the Alberta Wilderness Association.
This year’s summit was held at the University of Saskatchewan.
Participants discussed the coordination of bringing paskwāw mostos (bison) back to their homeland on the prairies.

Around 240,000 pieces of artifacts found at an archaeological site in Moose Jaw, Sask., are highlighting the long human history in the Wakamow Valley.

Bill Strongarm, a senator with the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations from the Touchwood Agency Tribal Council, said he is happy the site and artifacts were found.

"It's a very sacred traditional place," said Strongarm.

Strongarm said the site is located in an area used as a camping spot by Saulteaux and Assiniboine people, when they were on their way to the Cypress Hills in southwest Saskatchewan.

Strongarm said these artifact findings are just a layer of stories that need more research about Indigenous people and hopes a heritage centre can be built to preserve the area.
