A big congratulations to our students for their outstanding participation in this year’s Mock Parliament, held for students in Dr. Robbins-Kanter’s introductory Canadian politics course. From thoughtful debate to collaborative questioning and impressive heckling, students brought Canadian democracy and the legislative process to life in a fresh and engaging way. Our students continue to enjoy unique opportunities to understand politics in action, and they consistently rise to the occasion! Thanks to everyone involved including special guest judges Dr. Bejar, Dr. Ugland, Beatrice Morrison, and Dean Peros.

Last week our students experienced an unforgettable time in Canada’s capital city on our annual Ottawa Trip. We attended Question Period in Parliament and enjoyed behind the scenes access thanks to MPs Greg Fergus and Marianne Dandurand. We visited important and impressive sites like Rideau Hall, the Senate, and Supreme Court. We received career advice and mentorship from our amazing alumni who live and work in Ottawa. Thanks to everyone who made the trip possible. See you next year!

Congratulations to the Techniques of Quantitative Research (POL361) students for their incredible poster session on Monday! 🎉📊

Each poster highlighted a student’s original research project on the state of Canadian democracy and the social and political values shaping public opinion currently, using data from the 2024 Democracy Checkup survey conducted by the Consortium for Electoral Democracy and developed over the term under the guidance of Dr. Heather McKeen-Edwards.

A big thank-you to students and faculty who stopped by to ask questions and engage with their work, especially our Dean, Dr. Matthew Peros.

We are so proud of the hard work, curiosity, and research skills on display. The students’ work reflects both academic excellence, ability to communicate empirical findings, and genuine engagement with important questions about Canada’s democratic landscape. 🇨🇦

Bravo to our students in the Canadian Politics Honours Seminar POL 410: Political Communication and Crisis who just completed a 2-week simulation of the Canada-US trade crisis. Students applied their theoretical expertise to an ongoing issue in Canadian politics - according to Dr. Robbins-Kanter, their actions skilfully reflected real-world events and a plausible resolution to the crisis.
